#1 | | Newbie | Help please,
My son took his Walkman 580i to school and a kid took it from him and fooled with it. That burned out the SIM card, which I replaced, but now it appears as if he entered a password on the main phone. Is there anyway to get around this or is the phone trashed now? An AT&T phone store rep said that there is nothing that anyone can do about it. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Try bringing it to a cellphone store, they might unlock it for you. What they do is completely re-set the phone to factory settings. The price range is usually from $25~$60.
Hope this helps and good luck! | | Did you find this post helpful?

#3 | | The Mod-erator | I assume you're talking about a phone lock code rather than a SIM lock. It's amazing how many people have done this recently... Fortunately, if you have a data cable, you can fix this problem. I have PM'd you instructions on how to fix this.

PLEASE HELP!!!!! | I had almost the same problem except my cousin did it to me. He's now halfway around the world now and happened to left my phone like that. I'd usually wait for him to contact me back but seeing that school starts soon for me, I really need my phone back to normal. I looked all around the web for some ways to unlock it (My cousin was smart enough, unfortunately, to not leave it the default code "0000") and found this great forum. Any help would be much appreciated. | | Did you find this post helpful?

Now I still gotta call my cousin and tell his face that I got the code unlocked, with help of course | You should just say you did it all by yourself - bet he'd be jawdropped . Anyway, I'm glad things have turned out ok and that you haven't had to fork out for another phone. Any other queries, just ask - that's what we're here for!

They type of unlocking people are talking about on this thread, is where people have forgotten their security code (the one you get at startup if you have it set) and they would like a way to reset the phone so that they may continue to use it instead of having it repaired or re-flashed.
If you want to get your phone unlocked - as in being able to use it on other networks, then there is unfortunately no way to do this yourself without very expensive equiptment. You could however take it to your local phone shop and they will most happliy unlock it for you (though will probably charge you a small fee).
