Easy way to make custom mp3 ringtones for Sony Ericsson 518 (Mac or PC)

So the way I made custom mp3 ringtones for my Sony Ericsson 518 with just bluetooth and iTunes was this:

1. Go to iTiunes>Preferences and click on Import Settings button

2. Select "MP3 Encoder" under the heading "Import Using" (if it isn't already selected)

3. Select the "Custom" Setting

4. Set Stereo Bit Rate to 128 kbps and set Channels to Mono (which will make it effectively 64 kbps

5. Select the song you want to make a ringtone and then right click and select "Get Info" or go to File>Get Info

6. Under the "Options" heading, you can set the start and end times for your ringtone--at this bit rate it will have to be under 40 seconds or so.

7. Right click and select "Create MP3 Version" or go to Advanced>Create MP3 Version

8. Make sure the file is under 300 kb and then send it to your phone. I used bluetooth, but I assume you can use a USB cable or a MicroSD card as well.

The main thing is that there seems to be about a 300 kb ceiling for ringtone files on the default settings of the phone (and I haven't figured out how you get around this), so you should be able to make longer ringtones if you reduce the bit rate, and shorter ones with better quality if you increase, it, etc. etc. Hope this helps!
