Downloading and Installing the Sony PC Companion Tool:

  1. On your computer, use the Internet browser to visit Download for PC - Sony Smartphones (US)
  2. Click "Download PC Companion"
  3. After the file has been downloaded, open it
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to finalize the installation process

Using Sony PC Companion to Back Up Data to Your Computer:

  1. Open the PC Companion tool
  2. Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB
  3. Scroll to, and click "Start" (Underneath "Backup & Restore"). NOTE: if this is the first time doing these steps, it may take a few moments to start "Backup and Restore"
  4. Click "Backup"
  5. Mark the check boxes associated with the content that you want to back up and click "Next"
  6. Wait for the Sony PC Companion tool to retrieve information about the phone's file system
  7. Enter the name for the backup and click "Next"
  8. The PC Companion will now back up the information. It may take a while
  9. Click "OK" and you're done

NOTE: in case not all the data is copied, you will receive an error message and the recommended troubleshooting step

Using Sony PC Companion to Restore Data from a Backup File:

  1. On your computer, open the PC Companion tool
  2. Use the USB cable to establish a connection between your smartphone and computer
  3. In the Companion tool, click "Start" underneath "Backup & Restore". NOTE: if this is the first time you use this, it will take a moment for the system to start "Backup and Restore"
  4. Select the desired backup file and click "Restore"
  5. Mark the check boxes associated with the desired content and click "Next"
  6. Wait until the PC Companion tool retrieves information on the phone file system
  7. Click "Next". This will commence the restoring process
  8. Follow the on-screen steps and click "OK"
  9. Click "OK" again when the files have been restored

NOTE: if not all the selected files have been restore, you will receive an error message accompanied by the recommended troubleshooting step

Using the PC Companion Tool to Reload / Install Device Software:

  1. On your PC, open the Companion tool
  2. Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB
  3. Click "Start" underneath "Support Zone". NOTE: if this is the first time accessing "Support Zone", it may take a while before you can move to the next step
  4. Underneath "Phone / Tablet Software update", click "Start"
  5. Click "Repair my phone / tablet"
  6. Review the on-screen information and click "Next"
  7. Click "Continue"
  8. Lastly, mark the check box and click "Next" once more
  9. The latest software available will now be downloaded and installed on your computer

NOTE: this process may take up to 30 minutes to complete, depending on your internet connection speed and other factors.
