Ok, my last c905 broke down. So I ordered a new one.

This new one is identical, except it will not send or recieve MMS (pics or vids). Ok, so I try to update it through the phone, and it trys and says 'cannot update, contact service provider'.

So, then I downloaded 'sony ericsson service update' and got it plugged in and reading the phone. It was almost complete, and then said 'cannot update, phone has modified software'.

Ok... so what do I do. I believe I have found the catagory in the phone that is blank. I just need to fill it.
Menu, Settings, Connectivity, Internet Settings, and under Connect Using: it is blank. Nothing there. So I guess I need to know what to put there. My old phone said 'MEdia Net' in this area.

Or can I just flash this phone and install the correct software?

What service provider do you have? ATT? There is no way to fill in MEdia Net under 'connect using' ? That is what it should be. Allow local connections should be set to 'yes'. Everything else should be filled in like this:

    APN: wap.cingular
    UserName: [email protected]
    Password: CINGULAR1
    Login Request: off
    IP Address: just leave blank
    DNS Address: leave blank
    Authentication: None Chap Pap
    Data Compression: off
    Header Compression: off
    Proxy Settings: On, Multiple

Then go into proxy settings and do this:
    Proxy: On
    Same for all servers: off
    Proxy Servers: Multiple

Then go into proxy servers and do this:
    Select HTTP then:
    Username: leave blank
    Password: leave blank
    Proxy Address: wireless.cingular.com
    Port: 80
    Select Secure then:
    Username: leave blank
    Password: leave blank
    Proxy Address: wireless.cingular.com
    Port: 80

Then go into your messaging and do this.
Menu->messaging->settings->picture message then go down do MMS profile.
    Select new profile.
Under MMS profile name type AT&T MMS.
    Under Message Server type http//mmsc.cingular.com
    then Connect Using MEdia Net.

Sorry, yes it is ATT. Thank you a bunch. I will try all that and let you know.

Thank you for that advice so far. Still not working, but getting closer. Now it will attempt to download a pic. But eventually fails.

Heres what I was able to successfully put into the phone.
    APN: wap.cingular
UserName: WAP (at) CINGULARGPRS . COM
    Password: CINGULAR1
    Login Request: off
    IP Address: just leave blank
    DNS Address: leave blank
    Authentication: None Chap Pap
    Data Compression: off
    Header Compression: off
    Proxy Settings: On, Multiple

Then go into proxy settings and do this:
    Proxy: On
    Same for all servers: off
    Proxy Servers: Multiple

Menu->messaging->settings->picture message then go down do MMS profile.
    Select new profile.
Under MMS profile name type AT&T MMS.
    Under Message Server type http//mmsc.cingular.com
    then Connect Using MEdia Net.

For 'proxy servers' your instructions didnt match exactly what I was seeing, so I wasnt able to put this into the phone. Is this under 'SIP settings'? This phone does not have an 'IMS settings' option.

Then go into proxy servers and do this:
    Select HTTP then:
    Username: leave blank
    Password: leave blank
    Proxy Address: wireless.cingular.com
    Port: 80
    Select Secure then:
    Username: leave blank
    Password: leave blank
    Proxy Address: wireless.cingular.com
    Port: 80

Under "Connectivity" here is what my phone lists
    Wifi
    Bluetooth
    USB
    Phone Name
Network Sharing (this wont let me click on it)
    Synchronisation
    Device Management
    Mobile Networks
    Internet Streaming
    Streaming Settings
    Message Settings
    SIP settings
    Accessories

If it helps, I can list everything my old C905 has under 'Connectivity'.

Thanks again for the outstanding help. Much appreciated.

Honestly, I'm not sure why you can't see those settings. You have the option for proxy settings in your old phone? I'm guessing the phone you have now was originally for another service and has a different build of software.

    On my old (AT&T) C905
    -Connectivity-
    Bluetooth,
    USB,
    GPS,
    Phone name,
    Network sharing,
    Internet settings,
    Message settings
    SIP settings
    IMS settings
    Accessories

In both phones under SIP Settings, there is 'Proxy Server'. Not sure if this is where you are refering.

Under 'IMS Settings' in my old phone there is 'Proxy Address:'. Under it says pcsf-stdn.dca.ims.cingularme.com

Ofcourse, the new phone does not have 'IMS Settings'.

I have just ran across this. wwwDOTcnetDOTcom/news/mms-settings-for-your-unlocked-phone/#!
    Has anyone experience with it?
$2.50/setting isnt bad I guess..... if it works.
