Back Up App Data:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
- Turn on “Back up my data” to back up app data and settings to your Google account
- Turn on “Automatic Restore” to allow app data to be automatically restored when reinstalling apps
Back Up Contacts:
- Open “Settings”
- Access “Accounts”
- Select an account type and account to use for syncing contacts
- Ensure “Contacts” is checked
- Lastly, tap “menu” > “Sync now”
NOTE: Contacts backed up using the method above can be restored automatically upon signing in with your Google backup account.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Sony Xperia XZ to your computer via USB
- Turn on “File Transfer (MTP)” / “Media device (MTP)” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer and use it to locate the media files on the phone storage
- Copy the desired media files from the phone and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Sony Xperia XZ to your computer via USB
- Enable “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer and locate the media file backups on the PC storage
- Transfer the media files back on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder or the directories they originated from
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
