Can a Verizon Wireless phone be used on Sprint?

Does anyone know if you can use a Verizon Wireless phone on a Sprint plan? I currently have VZW, but switching jobs to where they pay for a Sprint account. I don't like any of the handsets that Sprint has to offer and would like to keep my exisiting phone or buy a VZW one to use on Sprint. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Re: Can a Verizon Wireless phone be used on Sprint?

Unfortunately, CDMA service providers in the USA, such as Verizon and Sprint, are extremely reluctant to activate phones not branded to them. I didn't say it was impossible, but it's highly unlikely that you will be able to use that Verizon phone on Sprint. Don't be fooled by people who say they can unlock a CDMA phone in the USA, because if you did somehow get it activated, it would likely roam all the time and you wouldn't be able to use data services like the text and browser capabilities.

Sorry to be the one to tell you... GSM phones are the ones you can unlock.

I've heard the rule of thumb is that is the phone does not have a Sprint logo on it, the Sprint reps will not allow you to activate it.

Have you looked into Nextel phones?? They have a bunch that are good. My favorite is the i860. With sprint and Nextel being together you probably have twice as many phones to choose from than VZW. I'm not to sure on it, but it would make sense to me.

Sprint and Nextel use different networks, and the only real advantage of Nextel is the 2-way radio. Otherwise, Nextel does not have the same kind of coverage or voice quality that Sprint has. Soon, there will be phones available that combine Sprint's voice service with Nextel's 2-way radio, which I'm personally looking forward to.

Is it possible to buy a unlocked phone, like a blackberry, and use it on a pre-existing spring service? I know sprint does cover blackberrys in my area.

Only if it has a Sprint logo on it. The phone must be branded for Sprint or they won't activate it. Or as I said before, if you did somehow get it activated you would probably roam all the time and have no access to data services, which would make having a blackberry pointless.

Re: Can a Verizon Wireless phone be used on Sprint?

So is there any way of maybe using 3rd party software to crack phone? Im completely obsessed with the new LG vx8500 (chocolate) but i have sprint and have a a900 blade. Would there be any way of legitimately specially ordering a vx8500 for sprint. From the actual manufacturer or maybe buying an unlocked version from overseas from where its directly made?

Take for instance the LGKG800- could i buy that unlocked phone and set it up with my sprint service?

Re: Can a Verizon Wireless phone be used on Sprint?

^^^ I say don't bother wasting your time. You can spend a lot of money to have someone tamper with your phone's software, and possibly even screw it up, and then it might work on Sprint (even if it roams all the time and gets crappy reception and won't send or receive text messages and go online). BUT when you call Sprint to have them activate the ESN number they're going to say, "This ESN is not recognized by our system, sorry we can't activate this phone" and then you'll be kicking yourself in the butt. Changing the ESN is illegal but if you did manage to get it done, you'd have to lie to Sprint about what model phone you have and the instructions they give you to provision the phone might not work on the VX8500 and therefore wouldn't be able to be activated so just give it up.

Re: Can a Verizon Wireless phone be used on Sprint?

Sorry folks, the answer is still NO! I'm closing this thread because the question is already answered (multiple times), it's final and it's not going to change no matter how many times you ask the same question.
