ESN Bad - making it open line?

I guess lots of folks have been suckered in to the bad ESN issue. My case is also dumb me... I was not able to notice that a little note "Bad ESN" on an EBAY Treo Phone that I won.
I guess if there is a way to make the phone open line, will it fix the bad ESN?
Has anybody done this yet?

Come on guys, I know that there a lot of you out there who had this issue. THere is a thread about this below and there is nobody who mentioned if Treo 650 can be open lined will the issue with ESN go away?
