Well, it's an interesting story. I was down in Philadelphia last weekend for a Rugby game (we won) and after the game I found a Palm Treo 755p laying in the grass. I knew right away someone would be missing it. So the next day I swung by a Sprint store and took it in.

They scanned it but all that came up was the account number, meaning it was reported lost I guess. They plugged it in to a charger to see if they could find an owner name. I was able to get the number out of the contacts marked "Home" and I called from my phone. The guy thanked me for calling and explained how he had lost it (it must have been at night) but that he had returned to New Jersey. He told me that he had already paid a $50 deductible and had a new phone. When I offered to ship him the old one via Sprint in hopes that he could return the new one, he told me it wasn't possible and that I could do what I wanted with it.

So, I have this Treo with a leather case and nothing else. Is there any way that I could take it back to Sprint and have them unlock it so I could sell it on eBay or something? Also, should I buy a charger or something to sell it with? The phone is no use to me and is just sitting here on my desk. I'd rather it be a pile of cash How can I sell it?

Good for you, returning a lost phone!!!
Once a phone is tagged as lost/stollen it is a brick forever.
But, It cant hurt to take it into Sprint and try.

Well, that's certainly different than the craigslist response to that story lol and thanks for the donation I was honestly overtaken by morals. A kid I knew offered me money for it immediately, but I told him I had to at least make an attempt to return it. I have a phone of my own anyway. It's an interesting situation that I did the right thing and was sorta rewarded.

There were two guys I talked to at Sprint and the one was like foreign and seemed a little stricter, but the other was a little younger and seemed easygoing, so I think he might be able to do something for me, depending on if he has the resources and knowledge for it. Right now I've got it back for sale on craigslist without the whole story (cause it is a little far fetched haha) and another place but I'm still a little tentative about selling it with it being a 'brick' or whatever because I have morals lol

I guess the only thing to do really is head out to that Sprint store and see what I can get. Maybe try multiple ones. Whatever I do, if I can get cash, it's more than I had before I found it haha

That's called Karma. Your first instinct was to go to Sprint and try to reunite the phone to its rightful owner. Now you have the possibility of making money by selling the unwanted phone-do good things and you get rewarded one way or another.

This story was better than the usual "I found ________ phone-can I get it activated?" stories I read on forums like these.

Finally, a story that displays honesty and goodwill! I hear about so many people stealing. It's nice to hear something positive once in awhile.

    Re: Found a Treo

I actually work at a sprint store and had a really old guy come in and return a HTC Touch like two weeks ago. We did find the owner after going through the contacts and calling "mom". This guy was rude and ungratefull!!! He was mad at us because he lost his phone!?!? As far as your treo, if it is on the lost or stolen list.. you can use it ... after seven years... hold onto it.. the 755 may still be really cool in seven years
Every body wants to bring the 80's back... thats ok with me thats where they made me at
