I am looking at two phone providers mainly right now, Sprint and Verizon. Sprint seems to be the better choice right now, but I would like to know your experiences with them to help me make a better decision. Thanks!

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
Well, I have had Sprint for close to 7 years now (I think) and have had no problems with them at all. I hate the contracts for 2 years but I have had good experiences with their phones and overall service. Their coverage is very good in my area and I rarely get dropped calls.
I think the fact that there is little good to say about Sprint is what we call the "internet effect". People tend to only post about bad experices not good ones.

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
I have had A LOT of bad experiences with Sprint. Incorrect bills, overages, random plan changes with a "oops our bad" response.
That being said, I had many many worse experiences with Verizon. With Sprint, I have to spend an hour or so on the phone each month when I have a billing error. With Verizon, my phones just didn't work, I never got my voice mail, my text messages arrived days after they were sent, etc. The service, in and of itself, was just awful.
And, their data is terrible. I'm on the web on my phone all the time, and Verizon was just way too slow/expensive on the data front. If you're big into data, then Sprint is usually the way to go.

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
I sold for both carriers for quite a while, and can honestly say I never saw the type of billing errors Sprint produced from Verizon. With my business phone, it was coded as a Nextel (I bought it right after they made the switch to Ensemble) and I'm fairly sure I was being charged on the OLD Nextel data rate, even though I had an unlimited data plan. No one could figure out what was going on with my service, they repeatedly asked for my SIM # (even though it was a Samsung m500) and I would be billed $100+ per month. So...it was quite a hassle.
I do agree that I'd rather be on my [working] phone with the company than have an electronic brick that didn't function.

Experiences you have had with Sprint?
I Hear You On That One!!! I Hate Sprint, There Customer Service Sucks, My Plan Was Always Getting Changed. I Had To Call Then At Lease 4,5 Times A Month To Make Sure They Werent Going To Shut Off My Phone For Going Over The Spending Limit. They Charge To Much For Such ****y Service. When I First Got My Service They Told Me That It Would Cost Me The Same Amount To Close My Account That I Paid To Get The Account. I Tried To Close It Just A Few Weeks Ago And They Were Going To Charge Me $250. From $150 To That!!!! Wow So Now Im Stuck Till My Contract Is Up, Which They Have Also Added 4 Months Longer. I Hate Sprint And I Would Never Recomend Anyone To Get A New Service With Them. I Would Never Let Anyone I Know Get An Account With Them.

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
Sprint is a MONSTER! They still haven't resolved all the problems that resulted from their merger with Nextel. After speaking with 4 reps who didn't have a record of my account, I was told I had the "Nextel Neighbors" plan, which was an entirely separate entity. When I later called the exact toll-free number I had been given when I finally found someone with information about my account, it wasn't even the right number! As other posters pointed out, they have exorbitant fees for cancelling accounts (as much as it would cost to renew the service!), and their mandatory 2-year subscription is ridiculous. It's possible that your service will be flawless, but if you have a problem...you have my best wishes, and my condolences. In fact, I joined this forum specifically to warn those considering subscribing to Sprint and/or Nextel, or whatever they call themselves (I'm still not clear on that point [and I don't think they are, either!)

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
I've just recently signed on to sprint and have had nothing but bad customer service and very poor reception in my area. Verizon was much better for me besides the painfully high prices.

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
Sprint
+ My bills have been basically the same for at least two years.
This includes 3 replacement phones via insuracne plan: no extra charges, and 2 phone upgrades.
+ Replacement time was @ 2 days.
- Customer service repair lines are slow.
- Customer serice agents on the phone are hard to understand/ deal with.
+ No Merger problemsLast edited by camstuf; 02-14-2009 at 02:25 AM.

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
if all you care about is price then go with sprint. but be aware that their service is just average and their customer service is horrible. If you ever need to talk to anyone be prepared to wait, and then wait some more. Verizon on the other hand is know for one of the best customer services of all the carriers

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
If you go with Sprint, be prepared for a lot of dropped calls. I have 2 friends that have Sprint and they can't wait to get out of their plans. Both of them sound like they are always talking from inside a tin can and are always dropping calls. They have both mentioned terrible customer service. I have been with Verizon for 10 years. Their customer service has been great. I have never carried insurance and on a few occasions they have replaced phones for me in the middle of contracts. At one time, my cell phone was destroyed. I called them and told them what happened. I asked if I needed to bring the phone with me. They said no. I ended up getting a better phone for nothing. I have been sold on them ever since. I have always wondered why people have bad reception and terrible customer service with the Sprint service and they still sign up for a new two years time and time again. Remember, it is not a good deal if it does not work right.

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
Wow, i know people have had bad expeirences with sprint, but i must say i have not. I have been with them since 2002. Only once have i had a problem with a bill and that was when it did not auto-debit correctly from my account. (It never took the money out..after calling sprint, removed the late fees, and gave me the next month at half off...for their mistake of not paying themselves.)
I work for a competitor, and it is cheeper, with better coverage and faster data to have a sprint phone than to use my emplyee discount.
So i guess i am happy with Sprint and have been. I have never had a problem with call quality anywere i have been and that has been to some small towns in the US.

Re: Experiences you have had with Sprint?
Nothing but bad for the first year and 10 months of my contract. They were constantly screwing up on my bill, the coverage was lousy and theur customer service was rediculous. Their call center employees were very difficult to understand and the obviously read everything off of a flash card. The sad part is, when it seemed like things were starting to improve my phone started to malfunction and so I took it into a service and repair center and since it had been discontinued they replaced it with a very cheap phone of segnificantly lower quality. When I contacted Sprint with the problem all anyone could tell me was to buy an upgrade... If I didn't have another year left on my contract I'd switch to Verizon. Sure Sprint is cheaper but believe me, you get what you pay for...
