Re: Using a Sprint Phone as a Wireless Internet Device for a Laptop
I bought a Rocketfish mini bluetooth USB device (those things that look like a thumbdrive that allow your computer to communicate using bluetooth), installed the software, paired it with my Sprint Katana II, enabled the "use device as a modem" and it works fine.
It's not "high speed" by any means.... in fact it's pretty slow if there is weak signal, but at least I can check my email pretty much anywhere I get Sprint service (I have unlimited internet plan, also).
If you do this, the number the phone needs to dial out to get internet service is #777.
I called Sprint customer service to make sure I wasn't going to get a crazy bill because of this.... the girl on the phone first tried to sell me the $59 bluetooth getup that they sell, but when I told her that I already paired it with my computer and was already able to get on the internet, she sounded surprised and said that it was the first time she had ever heard of it and wouldn't have thought it would have worked without the $59 package.... but as long as I had unlimited internet data plan, I wouldn't be charged anything extra, and so far it has been good times

Re: Using a Sprint Phone as a Wireless Internet Device for a Laptop
no minutes if you take the unlimited data plan.
If you just take the contract, you can change the plan to whatever you want, and have as many or few minutes as you want. using either the i830 i have to offer or any Sprint phone you care to use.
No activation fees!

Re: Using a Sprint Phone as a Wireless Internet Device for a Laptop
The program for Sprint phones is called Phone-As-Modem. Your phone has to be Phone-As-Modem capable 1st. 2nd you have to get an unlimited data transfer plan with the phone as modem package, but it requires a 1 or 2 year agreement, or they will charge you 10 cents a k.
The Sprint people will tell you you can't do it, that it doesn't exist, and you should get a broadband card, but tell them to shut-up and give you (say it like this) "a Phone-as-Modem package with unlimited data transfer." Stand your ground. It will end up costing about $41.99 altogether per month with a 1-year agreement, or $31.99 for 2-year. Make sure they don't give you things you don't need, for instance, the Pro-pack is NOT the same as unlimited data transfer for phone-as-modem. When you get the package, goto Sprints website and download the Phone-as-modem program if you are not computer friendly, NOT Sprint Smart View.
If you are Computer smart, download the drivers for your phone, bluetooth or USB cable connect your phone, and create a DUN connection, the phone number for the Sprint PCS Network is #777.
Most phones connect at over 921,000k per second. SmartView caps most connections at 230,000k at installation
There IS a way to }{Ax0r certain Sprint phones to do this without paying for it at over 10MB per second."Audacity is a virtue that should always be practiced with caution." --Walter Slovatsky, Slovatsky's Laws.

Re: Using a Sprint Phone as a Wireless Internet Device for a Laptop
There is a phone as modem plan. There is also the possibility of finding a site that shows you a workaround, but it's not a "standard" feature. My PAM plan works GREAT! I have two lines on PAM and they are GREAT for that purpose.
