So we're only 3 days away from the launch of the new mega android phone on Sprint's network. Once everybody absorbed the cool and awesome features of the phone next thing to talk about was pricing. As expected this phone will need you to have Sprints unlimited everything data plan, just like most of their good smart phones. But particular to this phone there is an additional monthly fee of $10 dollars.

This $10 dollar fee is called "Premium Data." So the next question is this what do you get included in this "Premium Data" plan of theirs? For starters if you live in any of the 11 states that currently offers Sprints 4g service you will be paying for that.

If you live anywhere else that only has 3g coverage then you will get absolutely nothing for that 10 dollars, but will still be required to pay for that fee as a mandatory if you want this phone. Sprints reasoning for this extra fee for people who are not in their 4g coverage is simply that "because this phone is so awesome and cool we expect that you will use more of our data and bandwdith so we need to charge you for it!.

Really Sprint? Cause I thought that "Simply Everything" means EVERYTHING!?
So if you're still confused let me give you a scenario.

You don't live in 4g coverage, and you just picked up the new Evo phone and are happy with it. Your buddy decided to stay with the same trust HTC Hero phone and not upgrade.

You both have the same Simply Everything plan and both using the same exact 3g network. If your buddy has more friends than you and spends more time texting and browsing the internet on his HTC Hero he will use way more data than you will on the Evo but you will have to pay the extra 10 dollars a month and he wont. Even though he used up more of Sprints bandwidth. So I guess I'll be holding my current contract an forget about Sprint.......maybe if the roll out 4g in my state it will make sense to pay that fee but not now.

I got the htc 4g and we dont have the 4g network yet here in san jose ca. I hear we are getting it soon. I was just kinda pissed I have to pay the extra 10 dollars a month for 4g and its not available in my area yet.

    Re: Sprint HTC Evo Tax

. I have the Hero with Sprint extending my contract by two years. However I spoke with them prior to buying the phone. I was expressing my "love 4 sprint" and don't want to go to another comparable provider with a lower monthly fee. $144 savings if I left Sprint. Cha-ching no $10 discount given pr month but I "still pay the $10". The discount was labeled as promotional renew. Maybe this helps
