Hello, I switched to Sprint from T-mobile this last week and after 2 phones, have discovered I don't get ANY reception in my apartment.

I plan to discontinue Sprint today and go to AT&T because it's the best coverage where I live. I am concerned I will lose my phone number.

So, should I sign up with AT&T before I cancel with Sprint to keep my phone number or after? I don't want to be hit with any penalties or do something that would nullify the 30 day guarantee by Sprint.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

yes, you should contact a Sprint CSR to find out, for sure, what needs to be done.

do not cancel your service with sprint without speaking with a rep from sprint and a rep from at&t to find out what you need to do. once you discontinue service with Sprint, your number will be put "back into circulation" (for lack of a better term), unless a rep with either Sprint or AT&T is set up to do the port.

also, sprint will (should) let you back out of your contract if you are still within the first 30 days of signing up. dan himself says it on the commercials! that, and its been their policy for a few years now.

Sign up with AT&T and have them port the number over first. You will need your contract or whatever you signed with Sprint to show that the number is yours.

That will automatically cancel your Sprint contract. Then return everything to the Sprint store.

    Re: HELP! Cell Phone activation

All you need to do is go to AT&T and set up service while asking them to port in your number from Sprint. Once you port in your # to AT&T, that will automatically cancel anything with Sprint and you will then have your # on AT&T. It is the same process you went through when you ported to Sprint. You are under the 30 day guarantee with Sprint so there will be no fees associated with cancellation. If you received the phones in the store, you will need to take the phones back AFTER you port, or call customer care if you ordered them that way, to request a return kit for the phones.

The above information is correct. Just make sure that you return the equipment to the store within 30 days. Also I would call Sprint and verify that you are credited under the 30 day return policy. You shouldnt have to pay a dime for the time you used under the current policy

    Re: HELP! Cell Phone activation

It would be best if you call both service provider starting with your current one sprint... just tell the support that you are planning to port out your number for the reception reason... sprint will instruct you to call at&t and have at&t request to sprint for the number to be ported out... they need to be in sync so that you will not lose your phone service... it happened to me hope this help
