if i get a new number can i give my old number away?

i want a new number, can i get it with a new phone or will i have to change my number? And if i get a new number, can a relative have it?

If that relative is on a family plan then it would be easy to transfer the number - just give them your old phone and you can get a new line and phone on that same family plan.

Otherwise I don't think you can give someone your old number.
