Unlocked AT&T phone

Hi, I just bought a phone on eBay (Nokia 6800) that is an unlocked AT&T phone, which I intend to use on T-Mobile. Does anyone have any instructions to getting Instant/Text messaging, email, WAP, etc... all that stuff to work. I won't actually receive the phone until this weekend, but I've heard that there are some settings that need to be changed to get those extras to work (maybe that's incorrect). Also, I won't need to call in to T-Mobile to let them know I've changed phones, right? I just have to put my T-Mobile SIM card in? Thanks so much for your help!

No Email for you.

Yes, sms will work just fine, all you have to do is pop your sim into the new phone, but unfortunately your email, and web enabled browser for your phone cannot be fixed. I switched my ATT 3650 over to TMOBILE, and called TMOBILE and sat on the phone with them for 2 hours trying to get it to work with their Tier 3 techs (The highest level of tech) and they couldnt fix it. It's a common problem when switching phones from different carriers. Your SMS will work, but your web will not.

I also know these things because I was a tier 2 tech for TMobile for a year.

Sorry....any more ?'s....feel free to ask

i found this...

I found this:
http://support.t-mobile.com/knowbase...c/tm21625.htm?

It seems to say that if your phone can change its WAP settings, which at least the Nokia 6800 can according to its manual, it will work with their internet, which is basically T-Zones, as far as I can tell.

I should be getting it tomorrow or Monday and I'll post what happens.

What about just using your "go to url" I'm asking because I'm about to buy a unlocked v710 (t-mobile assures me this phone is coming but impatince is getting the best of me) and on my v300 I have an option to go to url in my office tools and just bypass t-zones. Is there anyway to do this I'm still going to have t-zones I just don't use it anyway, so I'll have wap access (hopfully) and maybe can just go to other wap sites

I don't think there is a difference from T-Zones and a regular WAP ".WML" page (which is the WAP version of an HTML page) If you look at the link I provided above, there is a setting for Homepage, and I think you can set that to whatever you want. That is, in a brand new T-Mobile phone, the default setting for Homepage will send you to T-Zones, which is just a ".wml" page.

But yeah, you should surely be able to get WAP to work on your phone using the settings t-mobile provides and your new phone's user guide.

Got the phone today, I put in all the information that it says from the link, and it works fine. Connects to T-Zones. All you have to do is find your service settings in your phone and input the information provided. You will most likely need your phone's user guide because the names are different (eg. 'APN Name' was only called 'access point' in my phone).

I've also verified that it's true that T-Zones is just a regular WAP site. The whole internet, from T-Mobile, is called 'T-Zones' because that's their homepage which they set in their phones. You can just as easily change the homepage in any phone and you don't ever have to see 'T-Zones' again.

If you go to the Nokia website they will send you settings for T-Mobile. I unlocked my att nokia 3650 and got the settings from the website. No problems at all. Then Nokia site text messages the settings to the phone and it sets everything up for you. Hope this helps.

I would check the users guide for the handset to see if the features you want to use are offered with what T-Mobile has, for example T-Zones is just a feature that allows you to access the wap-based Internet sites so you will have to check the features on the Nokia 6800 to see if it offers Internet access

You will have to contact AT&T to have the handset unlock as T-Mobile cannot unlock handsets purchased from or use for AT&T or purchased outside of the country with exception to Canada

I did some research on unlocking the 3650. I can't remember the site I downloaded the program from. I remember you take the sim out turn on the phone and you use the coding from the program to unlock the phone. I called att b4 on unlocking the phone and they told me that it is locked by the manufacture and they cannot unlock it. riiiiiiiiite. Sorry I'm not being much help but after doing the research it was cake unlocking it.

just by inputting the url will not work since the phone was originally att, the web and email setting are set to the att setting, you have to change them for the t-mobile network, which the site that msop2001 posted shows, you can also fix the email and if you go to mobiledia.com and go to the forums and search t-mobile wap settings there is a thread that will help you in doin that
