edge is a newer internet access than gprs and its faster than the nomral gprs, which has speeds of 56k, EDGE is somewhere closer to dsl lite type speeds, its the nest step to 3g, T-mobile is not doing edge but jumping straight to 3g which is almost t1 speeds where video conferencing, video streaming and such is now capable

California has edge running now. Cingular setup edge on the california market before tmobile purchased said market.
This what tmobile has been waiting for. they wanted more spectrum and a bigger coverage area before firing off edge
all I've heard from tmobile's offline group is that new york is next and then june of 2005 the national rollout should begin.
Edge is Enhanced
Data for
GSM
Evolution
or next-generation GPRS

So it is past June 2005.
I don't remember seeing any press about the rollout of this new TMo full 3G network. Did I just miss it or has it been delayed?
Kinda curious because I am going to make a move within a week to buy a phone with some serious email/PDA like capabilities and would stay with TMobile if they had a better Data Connection solution than I am currently experiencing (speed being the main factor here.)
I'm looking for something along the lines of what Verizon is offering with their BroadBand access plans and the Samsung i730, but I don't want to stray from GSM and Sim based devices because I occasionally travel to Europe.
Any help or heads up in this area would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

edge rollout was expected, not 3g, in fact, Deutche Telekom, owner of T-mobile, is considering selling the US market to someone else since the 3g rollout could be abit costly for them, but there has been EDGE in certain markets, i believe florida is one as well as new york, i will find out more to let you with edge capable phones know!

Well I guess what you have said does give me the answer I'm looking for in a round about way though, so thanks. Looks like I will be switching to the Verizon i730 on Friday. Not a move I want to make stepping away from Global usability, but the speed of EVDO sounds so nice.
