wet nokia

I accidentally dropped my 6010 nokia phone in the toilet. it happened 4 days ago--at first the phone would sort of blink in response to me trying to turn it on; i took out the battery and sim card and put them all to dry on a heating vent for just under 24 hours, and now nothing is working, though the phone will occasionally blink when I try to turn it on. I have heard that taking out the battery and sim card and putting the phone in an oven for 5 hrs at 125 could work, though this sounds ridiculous. is there any hope? I am broke and even though the phone is inexpensive, not sure I can afford to replace it. Migh buying a new battery work? or is there any way that t-mobile would pay for the replacement (though of course I doubt it). Thanks for your help. boy do I feel stupid.

If you have not tried to turn it on yes there would be hope - but its sounds like its 'gone in'. I have lost two phones to water damage and its not worth getting it fixed - you damage the main electrical elements and its ****ed.

You have nothing to loose trying the oven - DO NOT TRY TO TURN THE PHONE ON UNTIL ITS FULLY DRIED OUT!

Good luck I think you need it!

The warranty information is in the users guide that you received with the handset equipment the manufacturer Nokia will not cover physical or liquid damage to the handset the cost to replace it will be 70.00 plus tax

you should not open it right when you pick it up from the water, it will damage everything. what you should do is, take the battery right away and let them dry. when you know it's dry up then put the battery back.

Yep... they are correct on both accounts... it most likely would've been just fine had you not attempted to remove the cover or what was worse attempted to turn it on... (same deal with just about anything electronic... even computers) ...there could still be hope as you said there was something occurring the status light was coming on right? ...give it until it's completely dry beyond a doubt and look it over... (most likely there won't be anything noticable to the eye but... just look it over briefly) ... you might give this trick a try... as there might be small water deposits from the soaking... try using distilled water to cleanse these left over deposits ... it just might do the trick.

there might be light at the end of the tunnel yet... there are always phone plan deals where a Nokia is provided free with the plan... probably not that model but a phone... then when you have the money upgrade ... there also might be a local service center around there... might be worth a shot to ask what your best options are for your situation... it's worth a shot if there's something local... let us know if there's anything new with this...
