Tmobile 4690 text messages

I have a T-mobile account with 2 lines, one for me and one for my daughter. Her line has been getting swamped with text messaging charges. On the T-Mobile bill they show up under the destination column as "AOL Builtin" and are always followed by 2-4 messages in the same minute with the destination listed as "Incoming". There are no real phone #s associated with each message, just a four digit code (4690). I have found out that AOL Instant Messenger Service messages will appear within the 4600 message number range. My daughter is not registered with AIM so I have the feeling that her friends, who may be registered with AIM, may automatically be sending her unwanted messages whether they know it or not. Can anyone explain this the process behind all this? Any how do I combat this and put an end to it? Of course AOL and T-Mobile (called about 12 times) have been no help.

If her friends are sending the messages maybe not much you can do. Find out how to get an Unlimited Text Messaging option for a flat fee , like say , $5 - $10/mo and forget about worrying over this.

you also need to realize that it's not just sending and recieving IM's that use txt msgs, Signing on, refreshing buddy list, adding buddy, signing off, All use txt msgs! This is how the information is passed, thorugh txt msgs. That's the reason you're being charge 7 txt msgs when you only actually "sent" one msg.

Good luck in the future.

Sincerly,
--Corey

I am a T-Mobile user myself... but I do have to suggest you move onto Sprint if you are going to use your phone to chat instead of talk and surf the web. My one complaint with T-Mobile is that they do not have an unlimited text message option as Sprint does ($5 a month more), and will not let you use AIM though their VPN option ($20 a month) either... You are left with their $7 1000 text message thing. They really need to work this issue out...

When you are reciving bill with the AOLBuilt-In, it's indicative of your daughter logging in to the AOL Instant messenging Service (via T-Zones) on her phone. That is the only way for you to be charged with this. Even if her friends are to log on to AIM, unless she is logged on herself, from her phone... she would be unable to receive SMS Messages, relative to this service... I would suggest you speak with your daughter, as either herself, or someone she knows with access to her phone is logging on to this service.... Especially if you notice their are charges relative to SMO (outgoing) text messages, within this service providers range of codes, as you've noted.

T-Mobile can not remove the SMS functionailty from your account...
