Okay, here's the issue.
I'm an active duty Marine who just got PCS'd (different duty station in short).
I have T-Mobile and am locked in a contract until November of next year. My phone got smashed to bits during a training excercise about a month ago -- I went to T-Mobile and got a new one (a V330 for about 180$).
Now T-Mobile does not work signal wise at this new base and I want out of the contract. No problem on the contract, just have to show them my deployment orders and they'll cancel my account without charging me the cancellation fee.
The ISSUE I'm having is the phone I just spent 180$ on. I want to switch to Cingular. Obviously I will have to get a new number which is not a problem -- I'll get the plan I want and a POS phone that is for free w/ the SIM card. The question is how can I take the Cingular SIM card and move it to my T-Mobile V330? Is this possible? Difficult? Costly?
Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

i would suggest asking t-mobile for the unlock code before cancelling out your contract, they will give it to you under one condition, that you've been a customer of theirs for 90 days. It should take about 24 hours before you get the code but they will give it to you and its free. Otherwise try finding an unlocker online or on ebay for around 20-30 bucks, or go to motorolaunlock.com to get it unlocked and i believe its 15 bucks from them and they do it instantly. Many options, the only question is which one?!?!

Okay, and excuse me for my ignorance -- but I am ignorant when it comes to cell phones really heh -- this will allow me to use the phone with Cingular? Lemme see if I'm following this correctly -- I unlock the phone and then just insert Cingular's SIM card correct and it will work?

Re:
Yes,
If you can get your phone unlocked by T-Mobile, you can simply insert Cingular's SIM card and it will work for you

Okay guys, that didn't work.
I asked for the unlock code and she said what country.
I said Germany and she said, "okay, the unlock code is 49".
I said "that's it?" and she said "yep, 49 will make it work in Germany".
Why do I get the feeling that won't help me at all when putting in my Cingular SIM card here in California? =(
Help! Thanks in advance.

Previous replies stated that T-Mobile will give it to you for free.
I don't really care about 10$ but I certainly am not gonna ship my phone off to someone and get it back in a few days. =(

Don't sweat it man... I bet you the rep thought for some reason that you meant country code... call back tell them what the rep said and ask them to give you an unlock code... they in turn will ask you for your imei from the back of your phone, then tell you to wait about 24-48 hrs and they will mms the code with the instructions... hope that helps...
