So I got my new phone about 8 months ago. When I was using it then, I could order any ringtone from anywhere or even use one of those programs to send myself a ringtone. I did this many times, got the text message on my phone, clicked GO TO and it worked.
Now all of a sudden I am trying the same thing (buying ringtones from major sites, sending myself some, etc) and when I click GOTO I am brought to the T-Zones subscribe page.
Did this change? Are attachments and browser messages now not included without paying 5.99 / month? Any bypasses? I am paying for ringtones that I can't access unless I pay t-mobile. Seems like nonsense to me.

You fell through the same loophole I did when trying to goto other sites other than t-mo's then you will need a dif service added unlimited t-zones or something of that nature what happened is you fell through the cracks and someone finally caught you, the trick I used for getting it back without paying is calling subscribing for the service then cancling (your only charged for the little time you have it activated) try this but it doesn't always work.

It depends on where you are getting your ringtones from. Many third party sites will tell you that you can download tones to a T-Mobile phone, but their 3rd party service has never actually been certifed by T-Mobile. In the past this wasn't a problem and you could easily get around it, but all U.S. Carriers are tightenting up, and while you STILL CAN download tones from 3rd party providers, the provider will need to have been "Turned On" by T-Mobile as to allow communication with T-Mobile subscribers. T-Mobile has a 40 page "Play Book" on how 3rd party ringtone providers are required to interact with their subscribers. If the provider doesn't follow ALL of the rules in the Play Book, they will not be certified. Even if they are certifed and then break one of the rules, T-Mobile can shut off their access to T-Mobile subscribers without much notice.

Would you happen to have any of the websites that are certified by t-mobile and are free... I know it's a longshot but it would be nice not to pay $1.50 to $2.00 per ringtone or wallpaper! Thanks!

may be a hard find... T-Mobile wants to make sure they earn at least $0.25 per tone...

DO NOT EVER SEND A TEXT MESSAGE TO ANYTHING YOU SEE ON TV
The way it works is this: an outside service (E.G. Jamster) offers you a free ringtone. You see a 15 second commercial talking about FREE FREE FREE. What you don't see is the tiny fine print - you will be sent multiple tones at $x.xx each. They will bill your service provider, and in return your service provider will bill you.
You will have a major headache on bills to come, and since the actual carrier did not offer you whatever it is you downloaded, they will not refund you any money.
Right now, the only "safe" free ringtones are available through a trick using a very popular retail store's website. PM me if you want more info.
