Yep, tmobile has free nites and weekends at 9pm too AND free mo to mo but u gotta pay a few dollars extra for that service. In my opinion, i researched my face off with cingular AND tmobile.. Tmobile comes out on top, in EVERY aspect. Cheaper, better plans AND better service... so far, since sunday, ive taken my phone everywhere and havent had ONE dropped call, OR failed service.. ive even takin the train and when going through a tunnel, with EVERY other phone I DONT GET SERVICE but with my sidekick i had service IN THE TUNNEL! the service was AMAZINGLY clear!

well in fairness to cingular, i get a good deal from them by bundling with sbc (or at&t now) and dish network.
plus, i never touch my rollover minutes as most of my calls are to the rest of my family on cingular.

A typical cell phone user uses roughly the same amount of minutes every month. There are 2 types of customers when it comes to minute usage:
1) Customers who ALWAYS go over their minutes (but maybe control themselves once or twice)
2) Customers who NEVER go over their minutes (but maybe go over once or twice)
It is VERY RARE for monthly usage to change so dramatically, say 400 minutes one month, 800 minutes the next, then 600 minutes the month after.
Let's take a look at minute usage for a person who is usually under their minutes. Normal/Average minute usage may look something like this over the course of 6 months: 588, 524, 553, 622, 576, 583
Month 1 = 588
Month 2 = 524
Month 3 = 553
Month 4 = 622
Month 5 = 576
Month 6 = 583
Let's say a person who uses their minutes in this fashion has CINGULAR, and let's say they are on a 600 minute plan. This person would have gone over 22 minutes in month 4, but they had 135 rollover minutes, so they were ok. In 6 months, they will pay $49.99 x 6 = $299.94
Let's say this person has T-Mobile. Without rollover, the person would have paid .40 cents per minute in Month 4. Twenty-two minutes x .40 cents = $8.80. The T-Mobile customer would have paid $39.99 x 6 = 199.95 + $8.80 for minutes gone over = $248.74
This T-Mobile customer pays $51.20 less than the Cingular customer with Rollover.
The thing these type of cingular customers do not realize is this: If you do not use all your minutes one month, you're probably not going to use them all the next month. By the time your cingular contract expires, you don't want to cancel because you've saved so many rollover minutes and you'd hate to see them go to waste. This is why Cingular was BRILLIANT in coming up with this idea. Rollover = Loyalty. Customers hate to waste their unused minutes so much, that they are willing to pay extra money just to keep the extra minutes, even though they're NEVER going to use them.
Next, we'll look at an example of a customer that ALWAYS goes over their minutes. First, I'll wait for some questions and responses to the above comparison.Last edited by T-RODRIG30; 02-02-2006 at 09:54 PM.

i totally agree with you on the 'concept' of rollover. we rarely use all of our minutes, but due to the plans offered, it is better for us to have an 850 min plan for $5 more and not use all the minutes, than have fewer minutes and smaller bill.
sometimes when you downgrade your minutes and lower your plan cost, you lose out on the extra benefits such as mob-to-mob. so really, i don't mind paying the $5 extra. plus, when we bundle that bill to our sbc landline/dsl bill, as well as dish network, the savings make up for the 'excess' cost.
add in family loyalty, and it's really a no-brainers as to who we choose for our cell provider. and to boot, i haven't had a problem with cingular, nor has any other member of my family.
so, even with the hundreds of rollover minutes we've accumulated, the plan works for me and i'm happy. i'd rather pay the extra $5 to insure we don't go over the plan's allowance.
but cool post rodrigo, i'm sure it'll help someone decide their carrier.

Nickel, it's great that it works for you. I am in no way trying to talk down rollover, just trying to point out the concept behind it. And your absolutely right about downgrading your minutes, it shouldn't be done in order to save money. One should downgrading because one uses less minutes than what they downgrade to. I will, however, point out that if a Cingular customer changes their rate plan, they lose all their accumulated rollover minutes (so I've heard from cingular customers, but have not confirmed).

RR- u are so smart..so arent u nickel...something like that is what i would do before purchasing a plan... now, let me show u what i figured out with going from sprint TO tmobile...
my sprint plan
1000 minutes- 45.00
unlimited n/w 9pm
10.00 for n/w at 6pm
my tmobile plan
1500 minutes for 49.00
unlimited data plan for 20.00
basically, with sprint im only getting 600 EXTRA minutes a month for nites at 6pm which equals 1600 minutes
with tmobile i get 1500 ANYTIME minutes, so.. basically im paying sprint MORE to have 100 minutes.. the 6pm nites just sounds good, if u think about it, the 1500 minutes u get wit tmobile, is basically 6pm nites, if used correctly..
does this make sense? sorry if i confused anyone.. =(R.i.P MB.LD.AA
