I just got the t-mobile web service solely in order to download sounds, videos, and pictures which I have on my computer and upload to my website. Downloading is one of the services main advertising points... but you can't use your downloads for ****. You can't use downloaded sounds as ringtones, you can't use downloaded pics for wallpaper. I guess this is so your forced to pay more money for ringtones besides the crappy ones they give you on the phone (which they should have said before you bought the web service), but I can't buy things like my friend's funny saying for a ringtone, or that clip of the song we put together. Does anyone know of anyway to get these kind of things onto your phone for ringtones (like, I just want to get an mp3 off my computer for a tone)? If not, don't get this service if your planning to use it for downloads.

T-Mobile is not doing anything different than other carriers are doing, in fact what they are doing different is charging cheaper prices for their plans, i know, i've used them all.

As far as getting ringers and wallpapers onto your handset, it would help if you tell us what phone we are talking about.

What they are doing is saying the service does something, but not mention that it is actually a useless feature (downloading).
I've got the samsung t509, there's no kind of usb connection.

The problem could be your phone, have you called T-Mobile so they can reprovision your settings for T-Zones?

Re: T-Mobile Web.... What a ripoff

I believe T-Mobile has something called Picture Transfer (go figure) which is a one-time fee, only a couple dollars, and it allows you to send any picture to your phone, I think it's unlimited. (This is at least true for the Sidekick but I don't see why you can't do it on a wap-capable phone). I don't know about ringtones, that was always one of Reneé's gripes about her Sidekick, she figured out how to get the pictures via that Picture Transfer purchase, but she said they didn't allow her to get free ringtones to her sk. That's capitalism in action for ya!

Do you think they can change something to make my downloads useable other than just viewing (or playing)? I assumed they just didn't want people downloading audio for ringtones so they'd have to pay $1.99 for each one (as said above f***** capitalism).

You can download your own things. I think you just need to figure out a work around. I've downloaded many of my own pics and set them as wallpaper. It's very easy. I've also downloaded sounds in the past to use as ringtones, but I'll admit that the last time I tried to do it I couldn't anymore. That's why I got the data cable. I have a phone that supports MP3 formats. I simply transfer my MP3 sound clips to my phone using the data cable and I'm able to set them up as ringtones.

I think you may have mis-read the description of T-MobileWeb/T-Zones. The $5.99 monthly service advertises News, Sports, and Email right to your phone. It also allows you to personalize your phone by setting up alerts for things like sport scores, stock quotes, horoscopes and other things. Every customer is able to access T-Zones even if they don't pay $5.99 a month, and can still download the ringtones, wallpapers, and games offered on the service.

Re: T-Mobile Web.... What a ripoff

Well, I'm quite certain part of the advertisement for the web service was unlimited web use, email, and downloads. I know the difference between T-Zones and T-MobileWeb. As for the pictures, I figured out that for some reason when I downloaded them to the phone from a website I have, it labeled them as improper format (they were in jpg), yet when I uploaded the exact same image to Image Shack and downloaded them from there, they worked, so I'm not sure what's going on there, but it works now. The ring tones is clearly a way to make sure people have to buy ring tones from them and not get their own from the internet, and I'm pretty sure my phone doesn't support a data cable (the only port is for the power/headset, there is no usb or anything), and the bluetooth treats mp3's the same way as the web service.

Sounds like you have a motorola razr or pebl. There are data cables made for your phone, the USB end goes in the computer. I have a samsung and I plug my data cable to where the power cord would normally go. The moto is the same thing.

Re: T-Mobile Web.... What a ripoff

I have a samsung t509, I assumed that since it didn't have a regular usb port and they didn't advertise it with the other ads that came with the phone, there wasn't one. Thanks for pointing that out (it does allow you to use mp3's as ringtones that you transferred through the cable?) Oh, and the razr does have a regular usb 2.0 port on it (my sister has one), not sure about the peble, but I don't see why samsung couldn't put one of this phone (other than making people go out and buy another cord).

So you can't use your own MP3 Files & JPG files via WAP?? Well aint that something...I was going to get the phone for my upgrade but I guess i will go for something else, Some samsungs such as X495 will allow I think its the software inside which wont allow it the T319 allows you to get walpapers and MP3s from WAP...Oh well I guess i will go for the PEBL or V195 either way it will be better than my current V300.

Get a Razr or V235 or some other Motorola with a mini USB connection. Then scroogle (www*****oogle.org) for Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools(the copies are warez and I can't tell you where to get them.) and get a copy and install it.Then do the Live Update in the program and make it the most current version. After that, connect the phone via the USB cable to the 'puter and let it install the drivers and detect the phone. After that, forget about using WAP to d/l anything.Just do it all on your 'puter and quit paying for ringtones/pix and the associated data volumes you used to do it.Only thing I use WAP for now is news info, etc.when I need to importantly deal with something. All my ringtones, pix, etc.are free.Have a great day!! :-)
