I am thinking about purchasing a Slvr L7 from here...
cellularconcepts.com/phones/phonedetails.php?product_id=3305&Motorola+SLVR+L7
I currently have T-mobile service and the contract will expire in a few months (1-2).
When I purchase this phone, all I have to do is swap the SIM card from my current Motorola, correct? When I do this, will I have trouble using voicemail or any other features? Should I call t-mobile and tell them about the phone change? I just want to make sure I know everything before I spend over $200 on a phone.
I like the idea of purchasing an unlocked phone because I will not be in a contract (once mine expires).
Thanks for the help/advice.
By the way, I don't use T-zones if that makes a difference.

Re: Buying unlocked L7
Everything should work fine, including voicemail, except the MMS and T-Zones. To setup your MMS go here: T-Mobile Wireless Data Configurator
.....now since the phone wasn't purchased directly from T-Mobile, it won't be under warranty and can't be insured.

The configurator doesn't have settings for the Slvr, but I read in another thread that someone successfully used the Razr's settings to configure their Slvr. Click the following link for more info...

Thank you very much for the replies
I will still be covered under the manufacturers one year warranty though, correct?

Re: Buying unlocked L7
Yep, good job Brad. When selecting your phone, choose the Motorola RAZR V3 which should do the trick.
A few of my customers called into Motorola to go through with their warranty, and they said that since it was over-seas phone it wasn't under warranty. Now if the SLVR you're thinking of buying isn't an over-seas phone then it should have a 1-year warranty through Motorola.Last edited by Bourn Identity; 06-14-2006 at 10:38 AM.

Re: Buying unlocked L7
How do I know whether or not I am buying an overseas phone? Can I speak to the sales rep about it? What questions should I ask?

Re: Buying unlocked L7
Hmm, well on their website, it says that if the phone is damaged, I would have to send the phone back to them and then they will send the phone to the manufacturer. When I call them, they said that some phones come from overseas (Asia, Europe). Sounds a little fishy.

There have been some insurance companies who do offer cellphone insurance plans/coverage OUTSIDE of the carrier.
You could always look into that method.
