T-Mobile just sped over four billion dollars in the FCC auctions for their 3G service and I heard it's supposed to cover a ton of people. Can I find out what cities will have the 3G service? Hardly anyone here in Denver has 3G service.

Re: GIANT 3G Service!
They haven't launched their 3G service yet, let alone announced it. The auctions ended today I believe.

Re: GIANT 3G Service!
It will probaly take quite a while to get it implemented. It requires new hardware to be installed on all towers that support it. It is taking Cingular quite a while to get theirs rolled out.

Re: GIANT 3G Service!
the way I understood the auction was that carriers were bidding on certain areas. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Re: GIANT 3G Service!
it is going to take a while to implement, a) cost (after they spent billions to get an ok to use the spectrum) b) local government approval (as in where new towers can go up or if the old ones can be upgraded) ... On the bad side of TMO's 3G, is that it will be specific to USA. TMO was not able to secure the same spectrum as the European GSM providers because this spectrum was already taken. In the U.S., 1900 MHz spectrum has been the most commonly used frequency for digital cellular service, similar to the 1800 MHz spectrum band in Europe. Although their European counterparts use 900 MHz for rural areas, stateside carriers have turned to the 850 Mhz band to maximize network coverage. Translated this means there will be a 3G US version and a 3G European version. So those of you buying unlocked phones needs to sure that is a US 3G or you wont see/use the 3G highspeed services while here in america. Phone service will most likely work because most newer GSM/EDGE phones are considered to be "world phones"
