Hey all--I just purchased 2 Motorola StarTAC's from eBay, unlocked from Cingular which I know is a GSM carrier. Since T-Mobile is a GSM carrier, I thought that it wouldn't be a problem since they both use SIM's. They're the 7897 and 7797 models of the StarTAC.
Did I get screwed on eBay? Will these phones NOT work for T-Mobile?

Re: StarTAC question...
I don't see a problem why they shouldn't work for T-Mobile as they are unlocked.. also, T-Mobile can unlock your phone for free if you have being with them for at least 3 months.. so just give them a call.
btw, why did you buy such an old model phone? You can get newer models for cheap nowadays.. just curious

Re: StarTAC question...
Thanks for the reply.
I actually just figured out that I DID get screwed. You see, I saw the StarTAC's on eBay, and saw that they were unlocked from Cingular, which I thought would work great with T-Mo (GSM) because they're ALSO a GSM carrier...
HOWEVER, what I DIDN'T realize was that when Cingular first came out, they were TDMA---ergo,the StarTAC'S I bought are NOT GSM models! I'm so bummed out about this! I've been dying for a StarTAC, but just realized I'm screwed.
Oh well, I guess I'll donate them to charities to make 911 calls and stuff when they arrive tomorrow.

Gags, that sounds like a great way to turn an unfortunate situation into a blessing.
