I would suggest you go for a t-mobile @ home service. If you have a Wi-Fi network at home and get a phone with Wi-Fi facility then you are signal strength will be like you have a T-mobile tower in your house.
I currently use a Blackberry Curve and use Wi-Fi at home and work to make free unlimited calls. When I travel, I have been to rural towns with no T-mobile coverage, all I need to is to walk in to the local McDonald's and make calls through there free Wi-Fi.
