PLEASE PLEASE help. regarding activation G1 and service

Well I got hold of a g1. but I cannot even activate it because I dont have a data plan. idk what to do. Is their anyway to bypass the activation at the beginning? I heard sticking in a SIM card with a data plan then swapping it out for yours after its done will work?


and whats t-zones? I heard about this and its like 5.99$. If I got that plan could I activate it?

Yes, if you have ANY data feature at all you can do initial set up on g1. Call cust care and have them add tzones/web2go temporarily for you but don't tell them you have a g1 before they do it or they won't add anything but the g1 data pack b/c all other data features are "incompatible". Just have it removed afterwards.
One thing to remember though, if you lock yourself out of your phone you can't get back in unless you have a data feature to connect and log into the google acct.

i believe you have to actullay have the g1 package on your phone to make the g1 work.. i have the blackberry data package on mine, and put my sim card into a g1 and it did not work..

I've seen it work before multiple times. In fact it's been a big problem b/c indirect dealers are activating people and going through initial setup w/ out telling them that they had to log into gmail or what happens when they get locked out.
It works but it's not ideal. You really should get the data package. Not garanteed to work either obviously.
