If you have a smart, pda or any phone with internet access you can text from the carriers web site and have the reply to your email address. That one work around. Skype is also inexpensive per text message.

If you are using your postpaid T-Mobile:
Incoming=taking out from your text bundle or 20cents if you don't have bundle
outgoing=20cents
If you send tons of international text I'd like to suggest you to use T-Mobile prepaid, it's only 10cents outgoing and 5cents incoming. No tax

Are you going to be texting to overseas numbers?
Based on my personal experience, texting to Canadian numbers is not extra and those are treated as any other text made to a US number (even though on my bill it shows the Canadian city where the recepiant is located).
