Help with getting a new phone

Recently I broke my cheap tmobile phone but my contract still has a few months on it so buying a upgrade phone from the tmobile store is too expensive. I was wondering if i could buy a decent tmobile phone offline without a contract. I looked around and it says i need an unlocked phone or something like that? can i just buy the phone without contract and put my sim card in? will it work that easily?

You do need to have an unlocked phone, unless it is a T-Mobile Branded phone, then you just simply need to put in your sim-card and go!

You can but a phone off E-bay, Craigslist, or any other site similar to theirs, or where ever you like.

What I did when I was in that situation, was I went to Wal-Mart and bought a Prepaid T-mobile phone for 20 bucks and threw my Simcard in their until I found a phond I would spend some money to have. It worked great, and the service was not interrupted at all.
