I am locked into a two year contract because my kids on the family plan bought new phones *right before* they rolled out this new service. Now I myself want a new phone- after 3 years with the old one- and T-mobile asks me to pay 600 dollars for it! I have the worst of both worlds- I have the contract AND I have to pay full price for the phone. To add insult to injury, my kids' phones were cheap- yet they will each cost 200 dollars to "migrate"? one of the phones was a 50 dollar phone!

We have been with T-mobile for 11 years, but will ditch this carrier just as soon as this contract expires

The way it would work is they would discount the phone, if you would agree to pay their high rates for two years.

You already signed the contract for the discount on the other phones, so they want you to keep the plan. That is how they make up for discounting the phone.

If you want the new plans you'll need to pay the fee that you mentioned. You shouldn't need to pay it for your line since you will be paying full price for your phone when you're on the new plans.
