I have been using my USB Data Cable that came with my Black V3 for a few
months now without any problems.
Today I opened my MPT (latest version) after connecting my phone and it
cannot find the phone. It now asks me if I want to install it manually and
I do so but still it does not see the phone.
When the cable is connected the phone goes into charging mode so I guess
the cable is okay.
Also, to check the phone connection I opened my P2K and that also says
phone not connected.
I removed the battery and reinstalled/powered up again, same problem.
Any ideas?
Oh, I haven't done anything to the phone internally since it has worked
with the cable either.
Thanks in advance!

Re: USB V3 Problem
If you have another mini USB cable to try you could at least prove out
the cable one way or the other which sounds like the first step. There's
nothing proprietary about the cable for the v3. I use the one that came
with my mp3 player and a retractable I bought for $6. You could also
try removing the phone from wherever it appears in device manager,
starting MPT and then plugging in the phone to reinstall it fresh.

Re: USB V3 Problem
Interesting! Was the difference a USB on a hub vs. direct to the PC or were
they both on the same PC or hub? Thanks for the update.

Re: USB V3 Problem
Below is something I found on the web that guided me through my
installation woes. Now mine problems were from the get-go and I know
yours materialized spontaneously...but I'm sending this regardless
just in case it helps
good luck.
EVERYONE WITH A V3 RAZR LISTEN UP. If you guys or gals
are having problems with the MPT Initializing... your
phone, I have figured out how to do it. I have Windows
XP SP2.
Before you start any of this, make sure that your
phone is not plugged into the USB connection. Make it
seem as if the phone and the computer were never
together.
1. Go to Control Panel-->System-->Hardware-->Device
Manager.
2. Expand "Modems" and make sure that there are not
any unusual modems under the expanded category. In
other words, only ONE should be installed and it
should be the modem that is in your computer, nothing
else.
3. Download and Install MPT v3.11. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
INSTALL YOUR PHONE. When it asks to detect your phone,
click cancel.
4. The default phone picture will come up. Now, go to
Menu-->Setup-->Live Update. Follow the prompts to
detect, download and install MPT v3.25b.
5. Do not launch MPT. Make sure the program is closed.
6. NOW, plug your phone into your computer via the
mini-USB cable. Your computer should detect "New
Hardware." Your computer will prompt you to install
the software. It will ask you if you want the computer
to search for you (Recommended) or it will ask you if
you want to manually select the software from a list
(Advanced). Make sure you go to the option that allows
you to select from a list.
7. It will ask you to search your computer hard drive.
You need to direct it to the driver that comes in the
MPT v3.25b you just installed. Click BROWSE. The
folder you are looking for is titled
"W2K_XP_USB_Drivers". It will most likely be in
"C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf" You will need
to direct your computer to the location that you put
the mobile PhoneTools folder in. When you download the
file you will need to remember where you told WinRAR
to open the file at and direct the computer to the
'Inf' folder. To make it easy, put the downloaded
folder in your 'Program Files' folder..
8. Once you have directed the computer to search for
the driver in "W2K_XP_USB_Drivers", click on INSTALL
or NEXT to continue with the "search and installation"
of the phone. It should say "Motorola USB Modem" as it
is installing.
9. Allow the entire process to complete. Once it is
done and you have clicked FINISH, unplug your phone
from the USB cable and power it OFF.
10. Turn your phone back on and allow it to cycle to
the main screen.
11. Plug your USB cable back into your phone and make
sure it is connected to the computer. Your phone
should start charging.
12. This is confirmation USB drivers were installed.
13. Unlug cable from PC
14. NOW, start MPT and choose USB method for finding
the phone when prompted. The program should
detect your phone in you should be up and
running.

Re: USB V3 Problem
Solutions for win2000 users or even XP:
- update the MPT to v3.25b
- open device manager and connect the V3 into the USB port.
- Plug N Play should detect and install the V3 as an USB device with
the default Motorola USB driver. You will see "an error occurred..."
when you view the V3 properties under device manager.
- Do a "update device" on the V3 usb device and select "Display a list
of known drivers...".
- Find the Program files - MPT - Inf - W2K/XP(forgot the exact name) &
install one of the two drivers in this folder
- It will say Microsoft did not certify this driver, but just hit yes.
- It will install it as a Motorola V3 modem instead of an USB device.
- Turn on your MPT, detect & follow the New phone setup.
This should get your MPT working with your V3.
It took me several days to figure this out.
I've used all the methods in every forum and only the driver info. was
accurate.
Forget about all the powering on & off BS.
Good luck!!!

Re: USB V3 Problem
Another suggestion: get a Mac. It comes with software to sync your
phone or PDA to your address book and calendar, and also to use
Bluetooth to exchange files. PAINLESSLY. Really.
