Verizon with E815

I apologize if my questions have been answered many times but I have searched all the forums quite well and only managed to have confused myself much more. I just purchased an E815 from Verizon, I don't have the phone yet. I want to be able to put my own mp3 ringtones on there like I was able to do with my data cable and my LG VX4500. I also would like to be able to move pictures and videos back and forth between my phone and my computer. Contacts and Calendars and whatnot wouldbe nice features but they aren't essential.

I would like to transer using bluetooth, but I will get a data cable should I need to. I already bought a USB dongle for my PC so I could transfer files with the phone. I have come across many crossed details as far as how I can do this, and what is limited with Verizon. One review said I would be able to do all fo this easily, another said verizon crippled the phone to not allow this. I also have no idea what software would let me do this, and whether or not the software only supports usb or if I can use bluetooth with it as well. The cheaper the better but I can spend a little money as long as it is reasonable. Any information regarding this would be very helpful for me, and I would really appreciate it. Thanks everyone.

This method works as I am using it with my 815 and my wife's 710


Installing MPT and enabling Multimedia Studio in MPT when using the
USB Data cable.

Seem edits may be required to allow MPT to transfer
ringers/graphics/videos via USB Data cable.

The Following assumes you have already installed Mobile Phone Tools
(MPT) and have used its built in Live Update to bring it up to version
3.20.

NOTE: The current version of MPT is 3.25b, however some users have
experienced problems with MPT 3.25b, so if you experience problems
with 3.25b, try uninstalling/reinstalling MPT and when you update,
only bring it up to either v3.19 or v3.20.

NOTE: There is a hacked version of MPT 3.11h floating around on the
internet that does not allow for live update, so if you have 3.11h and
Live Update can not take you beyond 3.11h make sure that is not what
you have installed.

Note: POSSIBLE USB CABLE ISSUES... While BVRP (the makers of MPT) says
that newer versions of their software still work with Serial cables
(see their FAQ HERE), I could not get my V710 to work with MPT using
my Motorla serial cable. It just sits there "initializing" but when I
switch to an OEM Motorola cable or use a Bluetooth connection, it
works fine. Where as using the same Moto Serial cable with my Moto
T730c phone works just fine. I mention this because there are a few
cables other there, that while they have a USB end on them, they are
not true USB cables. They are USB to serial cables. Future Dial is one
for example.

On the phone, turn off its bluetooth. (On the phone... Menu ->
Settings -> Connection -> Bluetooth Link -> Setup, set the power to
OFF.)

Power the phone off, then on.

Plug the cable into the PC. Plug the cable into the phone...

The Add New Hardware Wizard should run. If it asks to connect to the
internet to look for drivers, say no.

Select Install from a list or specific location. Click Next..

Select... Search for the best driver... check box for Include this
location... click browse button and navigate to... C:\Program
Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf\W2K_XP_USB_Drivers Click OK and Next. If
prompted about unsigned drivers, click OK. When it is done, click
finish.

MPT may experience communications problems with your phone when
copying files back and forth with the USB Data cable See the
USBSER.SYS PAGE for details and work around...

Launch MPT. If you are prompted for a profile, click OK unless you
want to create an additional profile (I have three, one for V710 via
USB cable, another for the V710 using Bluetooth, and a third for the
old T730c via USB cable).

You will see the Welcome to the Phone Setup Wizard. Select USB Cable
and click Next. The progress bar will move and MPT will detect the
phone. The phone may beep during this process.

Once the phone is detected, you will see a graphic representation of
the phone on your computer screen with an icon bar to the right.

To get the Multimedia Studio icon, use MPT's SETUP menu -> General
Setup -> Communication tab -> Change Modem -> click Next -> (select
device screen, highlight your Moto USB modem) -> click Next -> check
the box for "Do not automatically detect the driver -> click Next ->
Select CDMA from the left column. Select V710M from the right column
and click Next and finish. It should go back to Initializing on the
MPT screen, but should connect. From the icons on the right, you
should now see Multimedia Studio in the icon bar on the right. When
you open Multimedia Studio you can use its Mobile Explorer to transfer
files between the Phone and PC.

After the appropriate seem edits have been made to your phone, you
will be able to transfer ringers, graphics, videos to/from your phone
using Multimedia Studio.

The last line is the gotcha. You cannot transfer pictures or audio files
over the USB cable or Bluetooth to or from the 710 or 815 without
hacking the phone, to re-enable features that VZW had Motorola disable.
The only way on a stock phone to move multimedia between your phone and
your PC is to use the Transflash (MicroSD) card. Somehow VZW missed
this; the TF card fits into a MiniSD carrier which comes with the card,
and this in turn fits into a standard MiniSD/USB adapter, which looks
like a disk drive to XP.
