Cingular-->CellularOne sim issue

Cingular is shutting off my service cuz they say I roam too much! The only other option for me is with CellularOne. (Where can I get a sim card for the uncommon CellularOne) and what are the steps I need to take to make it work on my current phone.
Thank you

It was rumored this was going to happen, but it's hard to believe Cingular would do such a thing to their customers! You know what this makes me think of? "Hey you eat at McDonalds too much, you're not allowed to come back to Taco Bell!" It's really ridiculous when you put it that way, but it's really ridiculous that Cingular would dump so many customers!

Are you sure CellularOne is your only other option? www.wirelessadvisor.com can give you a list of every provider in your area and contact info for them as well. If you already have an unlocked phone and just need a SIM, call them CellularOne for a starter kit. If you're in a rural area and roam a lot, have you thought about CDMA service? Better rural coverage...

Sorry, I was rushed to get my roommate to work when I replied earlier. If you have a Cingular-branded GSM phone and they are shutting off your service for roaming too much, they owe it to you to unlock your phone so you can use a different provider's SIM card in it. I would call Cingular and explain it to them, and if they won't agree to unlock the phone for you I'd fight them for it. It's the least they can do if they don't want your business anymore.

i'd be surprised if they did that. not to stick up for a huge company, because i think this is majorly wrong, but they are letting you out of the contract with a phone that probably has not be compensated for due to the terminated contract. so if they're cutting you out, they're probably losing money all around.

but it would be a nice gesture to unlock your phone!

What is CDMA? I'm pretty sure that Cellular One is my only option. Although I live in a large area, for the last few months I've been in the middle of nowhere. They told me it doesnt matter and that my account is 'flagged' so I can't ever use my cell again on a non Cingular tower. I'm pretty frustrated.
Could you please tell me what a starter kit is? I've never heard of that before. And do the companies give you the code to unlock the phone easily? I have a manager from Cingular calling me tomorrow. I thought about asking her to give me the code. I mean, my phone isn't even a year old!

Thanks for everyone's replies. Any constructive advice is a help to me.

when the cingular manager calls tomorrow, find out what network you're roaming on. that might be a smart choice.

check out t-mo's coverage. it should give you an idea of the service (gsm) in your area!

http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/?class=coverage

and cdma, that's the other major cell phone technology used. if you're not talking about cingular, tmo, or any other small gsm carrier, you're cdma. unless you're talking about boost or nextel, which is iden. but your current phone wouldn't roam on either on of those.
