    Samsung A670 data cable

That is a fairly large rumour, however, I can assure you that we are transfering pics uploading java games, MP3 ringers, and custom pics.

Have tested and confirmed the Telus Samsung A670... However, not the A600 as of yet.

Rogers & Telus: apples & oranges

Frustration is not what I thought I had bought when I gave my Roger's Samsung e316 to my wife and bought a Telus Mobility Samsung SCH-a600 for myself.

With Rogers I was able to receive push messages and download wallpapers and ringtones on the fly from a variety of websites that charge no where near the fees that Telus Mobility charges. I thought that the inability to download was something to do with the phone (for the hype and the price, this phone is useless and as someone else mentioned earlier, I felt cheated - dang swivel flip was the eye-catcher, I think...) but a few more hours on the phone with Telus and next, Audiovox would prove me wrong; dead wrong.

Anyways, I took the swivelling Samsung back to the Telus store and thoroughly went through what else was available. I ended up with the Audiovox 8920T. But, do ya think that I can get any images or ringtones from anywhere other than the Telus website? Not a chance.

Pete has a point about this whole deal: why can Rogers offer us the "choice/option" while Telus doesn't? I was not expecting to come home and find that I can't do anything with my phone unless I want to deplete my credit card into Telus' coffers (heck, I have stocks in Telus, I want their money) to get a bunch of silly images and ringtones.

Long searches around the Internet trying to find ringtone/image websites that even offer support to Telus Mobility customers failed completely: they all feed to Rogers, in fact, to almost all other providers, but not Telus (and us Canadians thought that Rogers was the one raking in our money with their phone monopoly). To boot, I rarely found the Audiovox make listed on any sites either (maybe that's why Telus uses them), adding to the sense of isolation.

So I have this cool Audiovox 8920T and its 1.3 mp camera; yes the sending and receiving of voice calls is super, the screen resolution is dynamite, the camera resolution rocks and it has a number of useful features but, I can't step outside of the box to use it as I wish. Something is wrong with the math there. Remember, with Rogers, I can jump leaps and bounds out of the box but Telus wants me, all of us, to pay $2.50, plus $0.50 for download fee, to get a wallpaper image from their site when I am getting them for my Rogers connected Samsung phone for $0.08 cents each from an independent website. And Rogers doesn't mind a bit.

Perhaps Telus should make their statements about their phones' capabilities a bit clearer rather than just stating "downloadable ringtones and images". How's the average Joe going to know that that means only from Telus until he/she buys the danged thing and has signed a contract that can't be simply cancelled? An upfront statement about non-compatibility (or should it be, "permission denied"?) would have been something that would perhaps help folks understand, before hand, that there could be an issue if they were to want to download/upload goodies to their Telus cellphones. But then again, the drop in sales would probably force the company to start making fridges or something.

After my positive experience with Rogers (I also find the reception/signal to be much better than with Telus) I just presumed that all of the phones/service providers would somehow behave similarly - nothing was there to make me think otherwise. Wrong.

Remember when we were kids? What did we put our money in? A cute little piggy bank. And what is Telus now using to brand their name? Two cute, little piggies. Hmmm, do I smell pork, or is it the smell of Telus making money? Maybe they're the same...

But yes, Telus quite clearly sees and understands the opportunity for vastly increasing their web-based goodies sales by being the exclusive providers to their customers (well, they added in Much Music *choke* and some other junk sites to make things look less obvious). And yes, they clearly understand that if someone really wants the stuff and can't get it anywhere else that they will eventually end up on their website and fork out the extra dough for a few images and ringtones. After all, they have no choice.

At any rate, I've moved from a post to a short novel so I'll just wrap up with this: if you want ringtones/images/games/etc. and downloads/uploads from/to your PC, then don't sign into a Telus contract. We do use these devices for more than just talking now and this sort of activity is quite popular, but it's also very expensive if you end up with Telus. Stick to buying their stocks; which will increase as their revenues from their website sales go up... Rogers, on the other hand is doing just fine and before becoming a dual-provider-customer I had no complaints.

I wish everyone luck and I should mention that I am waiting to hear back from this independent website about whether or not they can force through a Push message on my Audiovox or somehow bypass Telus' removal of the "Save Objects" browser Menu feature on their newer phones (funny, that Menu feature was available with the Samsung SCH-a600...) and I'll post here if the result is positive.

    Cheers all,
    Acadian

P.S. I should mention that this is the first site that I have seen that supports Telus. Shame that the Audiovox 8920, or any Audiovox (low on the totem pole as they might be) is not supported.

What everyone fails to realize is that the download fee partly pays for food on the table for the artists that you so much enjoy listening to on your phone....I bet if u asked fidy cent if you could have his ringtone for free, he'd probably put a cap in ur azz hahaha....the reality is that Telus has to pay a copyright fee and they pass the amount onto us, the consumer, who has every choice of either paying for it or passing it up....same debate as downloading dvds off the net or going out and paying $25 for a dvd ...

However, the fact that Telus limits the downloading onto the cell phones is something entirely different. I would say that it is the same as one car manufacturer offering features that another car manufacturer doesn't....you have the choice to go w/Rogers, who offers u what u want w/out the benefits of good coverage, or go w/Telus who has good coverage but limits the downloading capabilities.....why are people always *****ing about it ? just do your research and don't buy it because it doesnt meet your needs instead of buying it, then trying to ***** at the provider to change their practices ? What is it w/this whole "me me me" generation ??

"Dont like it, dont buy it" .. simple and move on w/ur life instead of *****ing and griping !!

Dont dis the guy because he doesn't know the names of cellular carriers in another country. Do you know where Vivo or AirTel are located? Without a bit of research I doubt it. Leave the newbies alone

People also forget anothr big drawback to Telus and to the other CDMA cell phone provider(Bell). YOU HAVE TO BUY THEIR PHONES! It wouldn't be that bad, except for the fact that the monopoly of the cell phone industry in Canada has allowed a few companies to sell us crappy phones that are 1-2 years old. I bought my phone from Europe, Sharp gx30. It came out almost 2 years ago and it is STILL better than most phones than you get in canada through your provider. We basically get the garbage from Europe and Asia. At least the GSM providers allow you the choice of buying any GSM phone(it is up to you to make sure it has the proper bands - 1900 and 850). You can go to rogers or fido and just get a SIM card, without having to buy the phone. This, along with all the other reasons mentioned so far(not enough has been said about their awful contracts...if you insist on CDMA technology at least go with Bell they have way better plans), in my opinion plainly shows how Telus is the worst of the cell phone providers in Canada.

    dumb people

i own the audiovox 8900, and i use the data cable with BitPim8900 and Brewsky8900 to successfully download my pics from the phone to my computer, and i can upload mp3's and have them as pretty decent quality ringers up to 22 seconds long, fit maybe like 20 of them... Telus doesnt suck, most people just suck with cells and dont know what they're talking about... with BitPim you can view the filesystem of the phone and change literally ANYTHING you want if you know CDMA which is pretty much as high-level as a programming language could be.

I recently purchased a Motorola V262 from Telus and I am glad to say that I can upload and download games and ringtones, and pictures. Telus still sucks though. I bought my phone for $150 plus tax and they charged me 10 bucks to switch my account over and they always seem to slip a few cents out of my account every day. As soon as the phone companies allow you to switch while keeping your own number, I'm switching to Bell. The biggest mistake I made is switching from Bell to Telus.

We have the above mentioned for nearly all Telus and Bell camera phones.

To the other guy.. Don't go Rogers. Their coverage is brutal especially if you travel.

PM me if you need more info.

Of course Telus sells the cables for their phones, that way they can gouge the customers for even more money. What they don't tell you is that you have to change settings, "hack" your phone to get anything to work the way you want it, and if you do change the settings you void the warranty. I have had the same number with Telus for 14 years and the only reason I stay with them is the coverage, I don't use my phone in large cities much, usually way out in the boonies. The last two phones I bought were the v710 (what a piece of crap) and the 6265i, and both phones were next to useless untill I unlocked all the features. Sure I "voided" my warranty but at least the phone was then useable for my purposes. Telus has all its employees so brainwashed that if you complain about the company the only response they have is "If you don't like it, go someplace else". How about making the customer happy. I use my own ringtones, upload and download pictures, and even tranfer small files using my phone, what right have they got to say what I can do with my phone. It is afterall MY phone....what are they, the phone police. If I am doing something illegal with my phone is it not up to the real police to prosecute me? I even downloaded a picture from their site to use as wallpaper....coud not use it as the drm settings in the phone would not allow it. I am extremely greatfull to the individuals on the internet that take the time to figure out how to open these phones up to get full use out of them. Ack!! Didn't mean to rant for so long...Telus does suck, but there are ways to make the suck less.

I have a Telus LG Shine out of Winnipeg MB since November. If you're looking to complain about the provider/service and have negative excuses, I guarantee you will find an excuse to complain. If it's about Han or Greedo shooting first, it's about a hasty generaliztion about Telus and their phones.

Every provider has their own little restrictions in their service or hardware in some way shape or form to urge customers to purchase their own services. All I can suggest is to do your research and be smarter than that. Get BitPim, locate your drivers, buy a $5 cable from itrimming on eBay, and a $20 2GB MicroSD on Amazon, jump through a couple of hoops like I had to under Rogers and MTS through the years (i.e finding your app/pic resolution and ringer format) and bingo bongo boom, I have all my apps, songs and ringers I need within a week of tutoring myself through the routine.

Telus is fine...I would be keen if Spark was open to any website, but it's not - so I have my own hoops to jump through to open other website content.
Be open-minded, be fair and be smarter. Complaining gets you nowhere.

Opinions are like a-holes. Everybody's got one. Just don't let opinion make you sound like one.
