OK, Whats really going on here? I have read all the threads that explain how Telus has disabled the ability to allow users to upload ringtones games & pix to their phones, but no one has explained exactly what it is in the phone that is different than say a Verizon version of the same phone.
I have a Samsung SCH-a650 from Telus, I have a data cable, I want to use it for these purposes. Is there anywhere I can go to get the technical info I need to write a custom profile for Bitpim to get around this restriction? Is it a case of the upload/download protocols are unique, or will the phone just simply not respond to any requests via the data cable period? If it will respond, then how can I find out what the word length etc should be for a given request, or is it so proprietary that no one has access to any kind of info about these phones?
I am quite willing to take the plunge here and learn about it, I have just not been able to find a good starting point with any relevant info about Telus supplied Samsung phones. Any clues? Anyone???

That would be my assumption, so being that the case, how can we persuade the phone to give up its secrets? Is it a case of learning about the Qualcomm chipset, and then trying to find undocumented commands? Or is the phone set up in such a way that it'll only take read/writes to the protected areas through over the air comms, and not at all through the built in modem? Still looking for clues.....

still hunting for some clues.. someone has got to be on this
I know that you can't connect through the cable.. must be a firewall of sorts in place..
