    Re: rural area coverage question

    Move?
Sorry, I don't have an easy answer for you, but thought it was funny. Living in rural areas may be idyllic for some, but things like cell phone service, cable service, access to healthcare and other things become a tradeoff.
You might want to check into sites that sell special antenaes and do some research to see if they have a workable solution for you.
Be prepared, because cell phone technology is complex and matching compatible phone, provider and availability can get real tricky, frustrating, limited and expensive if you forge ahead blindly. If you would edit your user profile to include your location, you might encounter a member in this forum more easily who has better familiarity with what options are available to you and can advise you from experience. Also, check out some other forums that discuss cell phone issues (for instance try google--cell phone issue forums) to broaden your search and possibility of encountering people who have the knowlege/experience to help. Good luck. Smiles.

    Re: rural area coverage question

I'd recommend searching with google and you'll find more than a couple sites selling these things (might find one on ebay?), but I have been talking forever about how I'm going to get an "amplifier/repeater" for my house to improve my indoor reception. Some of the higher-end models claim to improve reception up to 50 miles from a tower! (I'll believe that when I see it !) Here are two sites I can pull off the top of my head because I've been looking at them myself:

    www.wilsoncellular.com and www.cellboosterstore.com

    Hope this helps

    Re: rural area coverage question

yeahhhhhh... it is possible .... you get a repeater (the wireless one I covet is $500) and get some advice on what type of antenna you need (I need a unidirectional antenna to avoid the reflected signal by aiming it directly at the tower) and you can do it!!

But I have a girlfriend who cannot get signal at her house UNLESS she hooks up one of those trucker antennas from wilson cellular.... (you can get their stuff at RadioShack) its a $50 experiment that you can return if it doesn't fly

    Re: rural area coverage question

Thanks for the links and suggestions. My cell technology level is -0 I have been to "wireless wave ","Andrews""Wilsons"and several other sites and can not pinpoint the product or products that I need.I am in a valley and I am sure that there is a tower reasonably close but the signal is lost because of the terrain. If I stand on the dotted line on the road in front of my place a get a signal but not enough to complete a call my phone has rang there more than once but can not complete the call. For everyones safety I am not playing on the dotted line anymore. My son brought a old phone that was in a bag home and was having no trouble with service, which to me should make some sort of solution a possibility.I will continue with trying to educate myself.Any and all help would be great Thankyou

    Re: rural area coverage question

LOL...when you sign up for service, you assume your phone will work whenever and wherever you want it to. What's to know? Unlock, dial number, hit send/talk, right? Cell tech knowlege at O. It isn't until you experience troubles that your knowlege base expands.

I read someplace, like cnet.com in their reviews, to go to a Truck stop for antenaes. I bet if you spent a few hours at one and asked some questions, you'd get some good information.

Reminds of of the time my boss asked me to buy some plastic wrap type film from industrial supply. No other instructions. Well let me tell you I can now practically give a seminar on plastic wrap. I learned that there are different types depending on if you want it to shrink or not,how much you want it to stretch, clingability, widths, lengths, mil, color. All we wanted to do was to wrap the commodes in our display model manuf. homes to keep anybody from using them because thy were not hooked up to plumbing. What I thought was going to be a 1/2 hr, get there, grab a roll, pay and return became an hour with 3 phone calls back to the office before I was ready to pay.
    Life...it's an adventure.
