So I would like a new phone and I would equally like to stay with Telus because of the deal I can get with prepaid with them. Is it possible that if I get any unlocked phone that works on their network that I will beable to use prepaid cards and fetures like I curently am. Telus works on a new 3G+ HSPA+ network Runs on 1900/850 MHz frequency bands and uses standard 3GPP SIM cards. I have been searching around for some unlocked phones that work on thoose frequency bands. If I find an unlocked phone that runs on 1900/850 HSPA will it work with telus? And If this phone is a smart phone will they make me get a data plan or will they just let me use prepaid cards like I am now ( I basicaly just text and I call very little, they give me 20cent a min airtime, and $15 unlimited text so I end up paying under $20 a month and that includes voicemail, caller Id ect.,If I would like to add web browsing its only like $7 a month for unlimited so thats an option too. Thats why I want to stay with telus with prepaid). So what are my options? I could just buy a regular mobile phone with no contract again from telus but thats kinda expensive for what you get (the samsung Instinct is $399 that way and the LG Versa is $279 soo.... any Ideas on what I can do. As well with the new network telus actually has a page on "non telus devices" and that you can switch them over, but it asks for the IMEI to be sure and I dont have that if I havent bought the phone yet... so any help would be much appreciated Thanks

Re: Buying a new unlocked phone and using prepaid on the Telus network.

Hi, yes quite a paragraph but its kind of short and to the point of exactly i was wondering, been on phone over an hour with telus and tryin to figure this out aswell,

and from what i got from them was that , the phones will work on thier network as long as they meet these requirements.

1: not locked , not stolen
    2: 3G compatible phone
3: HSPA phone (any phone that takes sim card is hspa)
    4: compatible with these 2 frequencies 850 / 1900
    - can have more, but must have atleast those 2 freq

also they mention if the unlocked phone (non-telus) does work on there system you will not get internet access with it throught theire network. msn messenger, browser, etc. but text and multimedia messaging will work fine. but if its a phone from telus it will have access to internet.

if you look on the telus website it does give a place where you can check if the phone is compatible, but there system is really onlly checkin to see if its a lost or stolen phone and does not have all compatible brands and models in their database. also another discaimer on that same page states :
    Code:
    Disclaimer
This information is indicative only. Your device's compatibility with the TELUS 3G+ network is based on the radio frequencies of your device. TELUS does not guarantee that your device will work on our mobile network.
so with i found out with them is enough to convince me, ordering a phone from ebay, quadband phone that meets requirements . ill test out and post results when finished

Just curious how things are working for you? I have a CDMA phone that I would like to unlock and put on my Telus account.
