I assume you can still port within a network byh porting out to PAYG and
    back into the orig network?

    Has anyone done this.

Virgin want £10 for a joining pack, (with £5 credit), which Voda will supply
for £1.99 with £3.00 credit, easymobile will supply free (but you have to
top up with £10.00), Tesco (value) charge £3.47 but give you £5.00 on
porting in, O2 and T-Mobile (no idea - cant find on website), and finally
    orange for £1.00

Which company is easier to work with? In terms of cost Tesco is the cheapest
    (£1.53 in profit!)

You can't port within a network. The process is called migration and is
very different. If you mean porting out to a *different* network and then
back in to where you were, then yes that can be done.

    Plenty of people have.

Tesco is also the only PAYG network that (a) doesn't use T-Mobile and (b)
charges the same to any network, which are both big plus points for me. I
just ported an Orange number to them and I'm staying, at least for the
    moment..!

I take it you haven't looked at call prices then!
    Virgin is cheaper to run.

If you dont mind being on the T-Mobile network ,Virgin is cheaper then
    Tesco Value Sim Tariff.

1.You get cheaper calls to 01/02 numbers after first 5 minutes.
    2.Voicemail is foc.
    3. You can make x-net mobile calls for 15p a minute by using a dial
    through 0871 access number like Telediscounts 0871 999 75 75.

Where is that number mentioned on Telediscount's site..? I can't see it
    anywhere.

I don't think running costs are important to him, he only wants to use it
to be able to port back to where he was as a "new" customer for a better
    deal.

If you know you're definitely going to make over 5 minutes of calls in a
day. Most of my calls are 10 second "I'll be late home" types..!

    > 2.Voicemail is foc.

A very big plus point, why can't others do this..?

See my other post, forgot to mention everything else when I typed that..!

Interesting statement - Orange, O2, and Vodaphone use T-Mobile for the
    PAYG network? (-:

BTW, I agree with your comments about Tesco, which is why I use them as
    well.

Not if you make cross-network calls.

You pay for longer this way, so although in theory you are paying 15p
per minute, you pay for dialling time, connecting time and ringing
time as well as talking time. Even if the call isn't answered you pay.

If it were a choice between a 20p direct call and a 15p dial through,
I'd choose the former. But as Tesco Value and easyMobile only charge
15p per minute for cross-net calls, it's no contest.

I meant of the "virtual" networks, Tesco, Fresh, Virgin etc. as well you
    know ;-)

Have you used the bundles..? I was thinking of it but not sure if I'd use
it all within 30 days. I just wish the voicemail was free like Virgin, if
they can do it why can't anyone else..?

Apparently there is an 0871 number that you can call to get these at
15p/min. See other posts in this thread.

Easy Mobile use T-Mobile though which is lousy coverage round here.
