o2 video calling?

Has anyone successfully attempted a video call on o2? I ask because
everytime I try a video call I always get the message not support by other
network or something similar. However today I tried video calling a friend
standing right next to me, we both had a 3g signal, shes on three, I'm on O2
and I still got the error message!

I'm going to ring O2 tomorrow about it but was just wondering if anyone knew
a reason why it isn't working?

Thankyou

Dan

I have an o2 contract through carphone warehouse and a Nokia 6680. I don't
much care for video calling, but seeing as it was one of their selling
points when I bought the phone I think it's reasonable that it should work.
When I got the phone it came with a 3g sim, they told me that the sim was
simply a spare and that I should continue to use my old one. I later find
after a few phone calls that they aren't even supporting video calling. They
told me it would be available sometime in November and that only customers
who had gone direct to o2 could use it at the moment. Well I phoned them
again today to find out was happening (my brother mentioned that he'd got 3
months or something where video calls came out of his normal miunutes) and
they confirmed that it was meant to be active in November but has been put
back to sometime in December. This they told me was because o2 are having a
lot of problems with the service and it isn't working for a lot of people.
Perhaps you're one of those people... I doubt I'd have grounds to get out of
my contract and take up another direct with o2, but it's starting to bug me
now. :-( Does anyone have any more info on what's going on?

2 things to note.

1) where are you trying to do a video call (have you checked their
coverage map on http://www.webmap.o2.co.uk/?Search=Search they are way
behind Vodafone Orange and Three for 3G coverage - limited to BIG
CITIES mainly
2) It is possible that the Video Call facility needs switching on at
O2's end (possibly called provisioning) assuming you do/can get 3G
coverage. I had to ask Vodafone TWICE to activate my video calling even
though the 3G service was showing as available and indeed I was able to
watch mobile TV which does need 3G coverage. (I know it is a different
network but possible it is similar sceanrio)

Video calling is available on the O2 3G network, Carphone Warehouse
are wrong the USIM is not a spare, you must have your account
transferred over to the USIM to use the 3G network and therefore make
video calls. If you keep using your old O2 SIM in a 3G phone the
mobile will be unable to authenticate itself on the 3G network and you
will only be able to use the 2G network.

Yes I know this, but carphone warehouse are instant that I can't do it yet.
Has anyone with CPW been able to get them to do this? If I try and call o2
directly they just tell me I have to talk to CPW...

Thanks for your reply.
Ben.
