I'm interested in some of the new Nokia handsets - Nokia 6270

is there anything wrong with three?

(I live in central london - zone 1 - by the way - converage shouldn't
    be an issue)

I have Zero problems with Three.
I wanted loads of mins at the best price, nobody could match Three's cross
    network tariffs.
Vodafone stop the clock is the nearest but still not as flexible as Three.
    Go for it...

Their network is still 10-15 years behind the other 4 networks.

Where I live in Scarborough, which is a smallish town in North Yorkshire the
coverage is streets ahead of all other networks.

Well, I joined 3 about 10 days ago and here are my initial observations

You get more "bang for buck" tariffs than on any other network

3G coverage fluctuates, even in strong areas

Indian Customer Service, though polite, should not be used for anything
    crucial

ThreeStore staff are friendly and helpful, if a little under-trained

Motorola V3x is an awesome phone

The "gimmicky" speech recognition (no training required) is superb when in
a car on a bluetooth headset.

The My3 service is fantastic and updates in about 5 minutes

All in all, they seem to offer good tariffs and despite initial
reservations about CS, have come across as professional, if a little
    ill-informed.

I know 3 were crap in the past, but I can only speak as I find now and they
are currently certainly no worse than other providers I have used in the
    past...and that list includes:

    CPW O2
    Vodafone Retail
    O2
    T-Mobile
    Orange

    So, there you go...HTH

I have had a 'free' 3 to go contract since September 2003, never had a
problem at all, always managed to get a 3 service in Hull and around
Yorkshire. Cheapest calls and zero line rental. Don't use the contract much
now, average bill is about 50p per month but I keep it running in case 3 get
a really good handset and I might upgrade n the cheap.

The main [objective] catch is that people who ring you get charged higher
rates, especially off peak and call charges aren't capped (e.g. on BT) or in
inclusive minutes. You can always ring back at zero cost.

The next catch is their terms and conditions. Read these for yourself
    before signing up.

Then there is their standards of customer service. Look back through this
group to see how they rank with other providers...

OTOH they do have low cost all inclusive deals.

    Yeah!

The way round that, of course, is to port a non-three number to three.

the landline companies bill based upon the 1st 5 digits of the number ie.
07xxx. they will, therefore, bill you for ringing, for instance, an O2
number, even if the number now "belongs" to Three.

Works great for landlines, but not alas mobiles.

Well, firstly, O2, despite having a release date of Dec 05 on their
website, have no idea when the Moto V3x will be available on their network.

I didn't want to be tied in to an 18 month contract

Videocalling on O2 3G just doesn't work and the 3G coverage is currently at
    about 35%

At first glance that tariff is very attractive, my £60 per month tariff
    with 3 includes

    1000 cross net minutes
    50 video minutes
    25 emails
150 text messages (doubled to 300 for first 3 months)
    50 UK picture messages
    50 UK video messages
plus an extra 100 video/photo messages (any combination)
£20 of included download content (any of the premium services including TV
    and Premiership clips)

I'm not saying 3 are better than everyone else, because clearly they
aren't, but I think they offer a reasonable service with exceptional value
    for money tariffs!

    >> You don't have to suffer poor coverage, dropped calls and 3rd rate
    >> customer service.

Hmm, I beg to differ. A mate is on O2 3G and has been unable to make video
calls despite numerous calls to O2 and his actual 3G service is terrible.
My own experience of O2 customer service puts it on par with the service I
    have received from 3!

Hmmm..seems a lot like you are trying to sell O2 3G ..rather than express
    an unbiased opinion!
