W800i tail ends

my previous post stated my thoughts on auctioning a water damaged W800i.
This I have yet to do after Xmas.

Just to round off the story, I had no separate insurance cover for the phone
and it was only 2 months young. At first I thought b****r that's £300+ down
the drain, if you'll excuse the pun. Then a thought House
Insurance........why not try. Even though the phone was away from the
property and in the hands of my daughter and to cap it all a company phone
(run from home mind)

The assessment of damage document arrived in the post on Wednesday from SE's
repair contractor. I contacted my home insurance company yesterday to
enquire about cover on the house contents. A fairly brief yet honest
description of the circumstances (all described as above) surrounding its
damage and a few phone calls back (them to me) resulted in my claim being
accepted and then passed to their affiliated specialist on phones. The
specialist insurance company phoned me within 2 hours..........saying "so
you have a U/S W800i we will have a new one with you by 1pm tomorrow,
Friday". I paid the £50 excess and hey presto the phone arrived at 12pm
today.

We have all heard of poor services when dealing with Insurance companies. We
pay our money and then run the gauntlet trying to get something back, well
in my (this) case they were fantastic.

A happy Xmas bunny..............NO not quite, along with the phone came a
card from the Inland Rev office, could I see my way clear to giving them
another £200 by end of Jan 2006 :-(

Do you get to keep the water damaged unit? If you're still thinking of
disposing of it through eBay, I'd consider breaking it up into parts -
you could probably make more that way, from a case, keypad, battery,
screen, mainboard, etc. Depending how deeply you want to go into
breaking it down (ie, depending whether you need to unsolder anything),
it might reap more that way (whilst still owning up to them being from
a water-damaged unit) than a 'whole' unit that can only be sold as a
non-worker. Perhaps.
