Swap two contract phones' PACs?

I was wondering if it were possible to swap two mobile phone numbers.
The reason I was thinking of doing this is so that I can get a good
contract that currently available to me (3, V3X on 6 months half price,
phone worth more on Ebay than the cost of the entire year's contract),
and then switch my number onto a future contract, but without
cancelling my old 3 one.

It seems to me that taking a number of 3 would be a sign of wanting
cancellation, and they might not allow this during a contract?

When you port a number out of 3, they cancel the contract. However, you
might be able to write to them asking them if it's possible to do what you
want.
