I'm looking for a PAYG network that lets you use GPRS that doesn't
block anything. O2 used to let me use anything, I could connect to any
port (Logging into Google needs to connect to port 8000) , but now all
I seem to be able to do now is use HTTP. They also seem to block
cookies which is annoying when trying to access webmail...

    Orange don't block anything.

They also have a unlimited extra on PAYG GPRS at £1 per day. They also
do 4Mb for £4 which lasts a month.

Additionally on Orange, if in one day you think you are going to use more
than 250K of data, buy the Orange World unlimited bundle. It'll cost one
pound and give you unlimited GPRS for that day - including internet.

Vodafone charge £7.50 a MB on PAYG. Certainly not good IMO. You'd get
nearly 8MB on Orange for that amount (using their 4MB for £4 package).

I've just started using Virgin's service at 0.5p per Kbyte. They have
no idea what they allow or block. I will be looking for something
cheaper, but the Virgin phone tarrif suits me. I had to get the setup
details from http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html as I could not get a
    reply from Virgin.

£5 per megabyte is very expensive. When you are roaming abroad, Virgin
charge the same, and then it is good value. For UK use, there are
    better prices.
