Re-register Orange SIM to me?

I bought an Orange PAYG SIM on eBay about 2.5 years ago ('memorable
number' phase..). It is registered to the original owner, but I want to
know if I can get it registered in my name if I don't have a) the
original PIN number or b) the original owners name.

Most times in the past when switched on (every few months) there has
been a voicemail from an energy company asking the original owner to
call them (but not this time! & I can't remember the name mentioned). If
I leave it on they *might* call, but would having his name help?

Thanks.

I have tried with an Orange SIM that I bought at a Computer Fair a few
years ago. It was a legit sale of a pre-registered SIM. I don't have
the name of the original owner or password/PIN.

Orange will not entertain any changes to the account unless I can
provide those pieces of info.

You've had it I'm afraid.

Indeed. Don't you have any details of the seller..? Why didn't you sort
this out when you bought it..? Seems rather late in the day to me.

Why not..? I wouldn't have bought it without those.

Daft really. They should do what the DVLA does, when someone changes the V5
withut actualy having the V5. They write to the registered keeper, informing
"them that someone is trying to register the vehicle. This maybe a case of
fraud, or you sold the vehicle and didn't send the V5 off blah blah. If we
do not have a reply back in 14 days we will re-register it to the the person
who is applying" If phone companies took the same approach, the people who
brought sims secondhand would be able to get some joy and no one would lose
a sim fraudantly.

Hey Ivor lighten up! I was young and it was bought at a time when
Orange Just Talk SIM cards were not widely available unless you got
one from a split pack, which is what this was.

I'm not complaining, just providing the OP with the information that
they wanted. Quite the reverse in fact - I put an original Out Here
pack on it several years ago and it has represented fabulous value for
money for all that time. It's also on 'close your own off-peak'.

If I lose or damage it, so what? I have another 4 Orange PAYG SIM
cards, which are registered in my name, all with Out Here on them,
which all the family use. In fact I even have one further SIM with a
one year Text Saver on which is still giving 5 texts a day and is
nearly two years old but don't tell Orange!

Happy New Year.

This of course relies on the user of the SIM keeping their details up to
date (which is very rare for PAYG customers in my experience).

Yes but if this system was in place and made known. People who didn't want
to "lose" their sim card would keep upto date.

Ah, that explains it.

I have the original OH pack as well, it's the only reason I keep it. I
also have that tariff, but I'm not sure what will happen if I were to
change the option, someone said if you change it you get stuck on the
current 24/7 tariff and can't change back again, so I'm reluctant to
try..!

Too late, they know now..!

Oh well if you have more than one SIM with OH on that's ok, I'd be
reluctant to lose mine..!

And you.
