Hello,
i have a nokia 6310i on a monthly contract and i find the orange
voicemail service an annoyance. If im not available to answer my phone
id rather people ring me back rather than leave loads of messages. I'd
like to switch it off but it seems impossible. I phoned orange and was
told yeas i can switch it off by setting callsettings/divert to cancel
all diverts. This didnt work. Can anyone tell me how to stop this
nuisance please??

Yes, ring them again & tell them to cancel the default divert to voicemail.
I think they must have some new staff that they've not trained on this
feature - I had an enormous difficulty persuading them it's possible - they
kept telling me it wasn't, even though I've got it on another phone.

There's an option in the menus on the Voicemail service for extended absence
greeting, and from there you can choose whether callers are able to leave
messages. Why not record your own greeting asking callers to call back later
and then disallow callers from leave messages.

As far as I am aware you cannot turn it off yourself. You have to get
Orange to turn it off permanently, so you have to keep trying to get
a rep who is clued up and so will do it for you.

Yes, call Orange Customer Services and ask them to please enable 'no
auto divert to voicemail' on your account. That's what the option is
called and it's disabled on accounts by default, meaning that the
back-end overrides any attempt to cancel a divert.
Depending on the clue level of the OCS person you get, your request may
be interpreted in various ways. One common way is that they think you
are asking for them to delete your voicemail inbox. Be assertive and
clear that you are only asking for the enablement of 'no auto divert to
voicemail'. If they insist this is wrong, thank them for their time,
ask them to make no changes at all, hang up, call back and try again
with someone else.
Once that's done, cancel all diverts from your mobile using ##002#<send>
then check that they're all off one at a time using
*#21#<send> (checks status of divert of all calls)
*#61#<send> (checks status of divert when unanswered)
*#62#<send> (checks status of divert when out of coverage)
*#67#<send> (checks status of divert when busy)
You can set them again using other codes or more easily using your
phone's menu.

No, you can do it, at least on contract (not PAYG). You have to find a
tubby who knows what "cancel auto divert to voicemail" means. Then and
only then will the handset menu options or *# commands work.
This doesn't work for PAYG, on that you are correct, only OCS can turn it
off/on.

yes, it can be done on both contract and paygo.

You cannot do this with Orange.
Tell them you are travelling abroad and don't want voicemail charges
while you are travelling. They will switch it off - n o problems *I do
this every year)
You cannot do it through menus or automated services

Re: Orange-turning off voicemail?
the other for getting a message, but without being to leave a msg is called
the Extended Abcense greeting. You set that up yourself by calling 123.

You can ask Orange to turn off the answerphone completely, but for
most people having the autodivert off and switching it on and off from
the handset makes far better sense.
