Is there actually a fix for this? I'm on my 2nd phone now, Vodafone are
sending me another to arrive tomorrow, I'm confident it won't be any
different, but they insisted...
If this one has the same problem can I ask that they give me a different
phone? 3 months into my contract.

Re: Nokia 6230i - The ascending ringtone problem...
Dan,
What s/w are you running? *#0000#
I had a similar problem, but this seems to have been fixed with s/w 3.50.
Having said that, I do SOMETIMES get this problem, even now, but by
switching off and on again, it seems fine.
IF you're not running 3.50, then get to a Nokia service centre (Level 2),
and they should be able to flash the software on site.
For service points, have a look at www.nokia.com or call 01480 434343
Good luck

Yup, tried that, didn't help I think they upgraded me to 3.60 actually.
Either way, i got the receipt saying it was tested and fixed, when it
patently wasn't. I can't be bothered with it anymore, i'm getting something
different!

Noted that if the volume is set to 4 - it's fine! How bizarre. Still rings
pretty loud on 4, so i'm happyish

Re: Nokia 6230i - The ascending ringtone problem...
Tell you what, Dan, after thinking about it.
The FIRST time I reported this (to the Nokia "Care" (aka Muppet) Centre), I
was informed "The reason it starts off ascending is in case the phone is
near to your ear when it starts ringing (Dohh!). I challenged them on this,
and their answer was that it was a Health and Safety issue (what a load of
bollo3ks!).
it further confused them, when I asked why the FULL range of Nokia phones do
NOT do this. They were stumped!
Eventually I spoke with an actual service centre, and the problem was
resolved.
Call Centres. Don'tya just love 'em??

This is exactly what the Siemens phones I have had do, AND it's
documented in the manual so, whilst I found it annoying too, it wasn't
an inconvievable reason for them to give.

Re: Nokia 6230i - The ascending ringtone problem...
If it's "in the manual" Dave, then one would expect it to be so. When it'
not in the manual, it gives rise to doubt, and (from call centre experience)
they seem to "clutch at straws" as they are not FULLY conversant with that
area of the products (horses for courses and all that)
Cheers

You've missed my point. You were suggesting it was a ridiculously
unlikely reason ("Doh!"; "muppet") - I was just saying that, on some
phones, that is the reason. Yes, maybe they were wrong, but wrong and
stupid aren't the same thing.

Re: Nokia 6230i - The ascending ringtone problem...
No offence, Dave, but when one calls a "support" line, one expects
"support", and not Assumptions.
We can all assume, as we all often do, but one expects CORRECT information
from those that are supposed to be in that advisory position (Support line).
Cheers
