My wife and I frequently visit Spain with a view to living there in a
few years. Roaming costs with a UK contract are quite high but the
cost of calling one another whilst in Spain is extreme!

I know we can both get local SIM cards and that will help
considerably. Just one question about 'linked' Spanish SIM cards.
There is a company (available on the Internet) that will supply you
with two 'linked' SIM cards. This basically means that my wife and I
could ring one another for a small cost of 3c per minute after the
initial connect fee of 12c, which is common to most Spanish mobiles.

The firm concerned obviously add charges to the cost of their cards to
cover the added 'extra' that you are getting, and as they are based in
Madrid, there can be a problem with getting the cards sent here.

Does anyone know if I can do this myself? In other words walk into a
Vodafone shop in Spain and buy two SIM cards and ask for them to be
'linked'. I know I can wait a couple of months until I get to Spain
again to ask, but having this info in advance would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

I bought pair of linked sim cards from a Vodafone shop
near Malaga a few weeks ago. The total cost was 48€
and each had 18€ of call credit included, so the actual
cost to us was 6€ per sim card !

Thanks Mike, very informative. It's clearly better value to get them
there than order them via the Net to the UK.

    Cheers.

    Peter.

One of our clients buys Gemplus smart cards in very large quantities.
    They cost 4p each.
