Farewell M2000 - Hello MockBerry?
Ah, the end is in sight. Soon the contract on this damned SPV M2000 will be
up, and I'll be able to relegate the bloody thing. Not before time, either.

So - which of the current crop of MockBerries is worth considering?
Nokia seem to do the 6822 and 9300, with a few upcoming E-series.
SonyEricsson? Just the P910?
Before this "Oops, I looked at it funny, it needs restarting. Yet again"
housebrick-from-hell, I liked my T68 and T610 - haven't had a Nokia for a
while. I don't mind the phone being a bit chunkier than the T610.
I've been on Orange (obviously) and have no real desire to move away - Voda
have pissed me off in the past.
Thoughts? What sort of wedge am I going to be shelling - currently on
YP200.

HTC BlueAngel aka iMate PDA2k aka XDA IIs
WiFi, slide-out keyboard, bluetooth.

You do not want one. Trust me.
Actually, to be fair, the problems don't seem to be mainly HTCs - it's just
that Windows Mobile itself is such a bag of sweaty hairy bollocks. A
colleague's iPaq is just as bad.
The handset itself is reasonably solid (and the screen has withstood a 13A
plug dropped on it - a hole in the plastic outer, but the touch still
works)
Main problems I've had :-
OS - Regularly hangs. Green phone button cold-resets the damn thing.
HTC - stylus no longer stays put.

Mine's been allright, in use for over a year now.

Sounds like hardware to me. There's a backup battery to keep your data
alive in a power-loss situation, and the only way to hard-reset is to
hold down the power button whilst jabbing the soft reset button. If you
are hard-resetting on pressing the green button, that's bad news.

Not experienced that myself. Maybe you're just too rough with it!

<shrug>
Maybe it knows I liked my Palm Vx, and just hates me?

Easy to work around. I haven't touched the green button in about nine
months...
Are you having to regularly soft-reset, though?

My keyboard slide is still tight, though.

Once a fortnight maybe? I can certainly live with that.

Do you ever open it though?!

Except when you realise it needs resetting because the phone appears to be
working fine - even shows varying signal strength - but just isn't talking
to the network. Reset it, and you get a flood of missed calls and
voicemails...

Yup.

Never heard of it doing that specifically, but then all phones do that -
it's a property of the network. Caused by failure to re-attach to the
network properly after going through a patch of no coverage (e.g. the
underground). Not specific to the M2000. My wifes K750 does it.

OK, OK... <grin> So we'll agree to differ about the vileness of this damned
M2000.
Now. Back to the point of the original post...
Nokia 6822 and the other crowd of "MockBerrys" - Phones with BlackBerry
email. Are any of 'em any bloody good, or what?

Nobody?
Incidentally - I was looking at an Orange brochure today - the 6822 only
has 3.5Mb and no storage slot. Bit crap for a phone intended for email use.
So that's off the list.

It does come with £100 trade-in for an old phone though...

That won't help much if the phone is no use for the intended task...
(Oh, and the M2000 (hateful pile of cat vomit though it may be) will be
staying "on fleet" for other purposes)
