I bought a p900 which was on Orange but which has been unlocked. When I put
my Vodafone SIM in it says it wants a Lock Code. I've never put one on my
SIM, so I tried the default which is 0000, without success.
Is there a different default for Orange phones?

No, lock codes are put their by users to prevent other SIMs from being
used.
Contact the seller and ask him what code he input. If he is unable to
provide the code then have a refund, or get him to refund you a tenner
for having the code reset by an unlocker.

You could but you would be wrong. The lock code has been put there by
the previous owner.
