3G - is it worth it?

Orange having had to remove their only transmitter in the town I live,
and reception taking a dive as a result, I am moving to a Vodafone
contract.

I didn't really want a new phone as I am perfectly happy with my sony
Ericsson K750i. However for the usage I am going to make the contract
that worked out the best for me (according to their call centre
people) includes a free Nokia 6680.

I don't really like Nokia 6680s and made it perfectly clear I intend
to sell it on Ebay. But having been allocated it I wonder if it will
be worth it. I have never used Symbian OS before or 3G.

I was wondering what the good people here thought of 3G. Is it worth
bothering with? Is it expensive to use? What use is it? Given that
Vodafone 3G isn't available where I live, is there any point? I will
not be making video calls anyway, nor will I bother paying for that
stupid Sky on Mobile TV thing, (is there any point in that?)

and is there any point in the Symbian OS? I understand it means I can
view PDFs / DOC / XLS etc. (of practically no use to me), also that I
could run things like TomTom (also of no use to me.) Would there be
any benefits over the K750i's system?

Or should I just sell it?

Thanks!

3G? Is it worth it? No. Not unless you want to spend 50p per minute
making video calls... having virtually a broadband connection on your
phone but being unable to use it because you're charged the same as
GPRS... All that great content? Well, you still have to pay for it, then
you have to pay for the download megs too...

The phone could be worth it... there are lots of symbian apps out there,
internet, msn, ftp, telnet, ssh, there was a lie detector, tom tom, dvd
player, various games etc...

The only thing that might be worth it, is the price, that you could then
sell on eBay for new, or find a local Computer Exchange who might
actually give you more than you might get on eBay with less of the hassle.

Ah, thanks, I won't bother with that then.

I think I shall sell it then.

It was an auction. The networks got themselves into a bidding frenzy.
That's their own fault. Not the government's.

Debatable. Other Gov's. sold at fixed price, and some gave part of auction
money back.
Whether it was providers stupidity or Gov. greed, the result is the same:
Either way - YOU PAY !

and BTW the networks proposed the auction system, rather than a 'beauty
contest' (viz who could roll out the best network) like the French did!
