Tiscali: 'Smart Talk' and 'Simply Dial'

I thought I was on Tiscali's "Smart Talk (Daytime Extra)" which
charges 2p a minute at all times to UK landlines.

When I dial Tiscali from my own landline (using an 0800 access
number) I get an announcement which says "Simply Dial".

Is it supposed to be like this?

Have Tiscali changed some of their service names?

Any info on what has happened?

BY WAY OF BACKGROUND ...

On the Tiscali web site this is Smart Talk Daytime Extra:

And this is Simply Dial:

On Simply Dial I can click "Lower UK Rates" and then get a generic
Smart Talk screen. But after that screen it's not clear which
tarrif I would be on. Nothing there looks very close to Smart
Talk Daytime Extra.

Why would you want to be paying 2p/min when you can pay 3p per call?

If you can guarantee the call would be under 90s

Do you mean 18866 and 1899? I use Tiscali when those services are
not working and for calls where I need to leave just a short
message.

....now I heard very, very recently (and here I can't find info on the
web, so apologies if it's not correct - but it is from a reliable
source) that Carphone Warehouse had recently acquired the "few
hundred" residential LCR customers from Tiscali that they no longer
wanted to operate, and were touting the customers around within the
group to see which division wanted them...

....so I guess you've just find found out

Incorrect. Provided the average is below 90s, you'll save money
overall. Sure, some calls may be more expensive, but they'll be
outweighed by those that are cheaper.

Yes if many calls are under 90s, however most (granted not all) peoples calls
would be longer then 90s, I'd struggle to keep a call under 180s let alone
90s.

A quick poke at some office PBX logs show that 65% of outbound calls
to geographic numbers lasted less than 90 seconds (the sample size is
about 9,000 of the most recent calls.)

Other useless facts: The average geographic call lasted 216 seconds,
the average mobile call 154 seconds and the average non-geographic is
114 seconds. So it turns out that we wouldn't happen to save on a
2p/min tariff compared to 3p/call but it hardly matters as the tariff
we're on is cheaper than both of those.

Those figures also suggest that it is not necessarily the case that
non-geographics keep you on the phone longer on average than with a
geographic.

Social calls are probably longer on average though - certainly my calls
at work are short & to the point as I'm expected to be doing other
things.
